I haved learned alot from videogames and I learn more with each new one!
for example.

war themed video games (like call of duty) inspire me to learn what real wars are like.
I do not like war in the real world... it is horrorifiying.

Racing games (like gran turismo 4) are very informative about real world cars and make me want to learn about cars.

RPG (role playing games like dragon quest) teach strategey and logic.

anime themed fighting games (like dragonball z of king of fighters) have me learning about that kind of game/style/artwork
I do not fight in the real world.

tycoon games I (like zoo tycoon) can help one learn how to spend and manage money.
you can learn alot in those games... Zoo tycoon tells the facts about most animals seen in the game.
I love animals. and i'm glad they put so much work into the animal facts section of the game.
zoo tycoon also teaches that we must take proper care of the world and protect the eviorment.
I wish they would make more zootycoon games.

many games make me want to learn how to do computer animation.... but that would require advanced computer tech class's.
every video game no matter how violent or far from reality always has a bit of truth in it.
Many games are based on reality.

Also video games require the player to be intelligent and become more intelligent.
becuase if you don't then beating the game would be impossible.

So... in that case. who thinks they can say "Video games rot brains" or "video games promote violence"
Or "video games are unhealthy"

I'd like to see the logic behind That.

I'd aslo like to know what others have learned from video games.
or what they are inspired to learn becuase of a video game.

I remember putting all my money into buying this nice new viper on GT2, and then when I went to drive it, I was blown away by it's inability to grip the track. I learned a lot that day. :)

Was it a GTS model? The real world variant has lousy grip as well thanks to no traction or stability control. My dad learned a lot when he went full throttle whilst at a complete stop and wrecked his. It irritated him later when I used GT3 to show him where he went wrong and why he shouldn't step on the gas so hard with a car thats loaded with HP and torque :D

He was not pleased.

Anyways, back on subject.

Racing: I've learned A LOT about cars via games like GT and Forza. I've had a few real life situations that I put my knowledge to use. A couple years ago I was driving home in the snow and went down a hill when my rear end slipped out. I automatically counter steered and feathered my way out of landing in a ditch. I didn't even think twice about what I was doing.

As far as shooting games go? Ummm........not much, other than older CoD series that prompted me to read up on some of battles fought that I'd never heard of.

As tacky as it sounds the "speechcraft" in Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion taught me about adjusting my language to trigger positive responses based on a person's facial cues.

I started gaming since i was 4, i`ve played video-games for atleast 4 hours a day since! So a lot of what i know is from the games or the web! All my English skills are from games, i got pretty decent at time management from games and learned to spent money effectively.

And a lot more which i don`t remember at this time.

True, I see video games as therapeutic I'm someone who uses games as an escape from reality or to do something I couldn't typically do in real life, the immersion is a very important factor for me.

I Actually taught myself to read with pokemon red. I had already learned most of the sounds, but the game helped me put them together. I actually became very good at phonetics because Pokemon names are made-up words. It's amazing how many kids learn to read just by memorizing words and not working on their ability to sound things out.

Video games vastly improved my vocabulary and there's even been some tangential learning involved, such as looking into Jungian psychology because of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 and Zoo Tycoon working as a catalyst for my love of animals, spurring further research.

I learnt that entering a code will give me invincibility.
To be honest, I think a lot of games require you to plan and organise. RPGs... Shooters... Action/Adventure etc.

Playing Harvest Moon taught me time management skills when I was in middle school, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and Mario is Missing taught me random facts about the world and history, and Mario Golf taught me pretty much the only things I know about golf.

Animal Crossing taught me that things like writing to people (or emailing/texting) and giving them gifts, or going on outings with them will increase the chances of them being your friend. Inversely, not doing those things will cause them to move away (or, stop talking to you). Wii Fit taught me some yoga poses and exercises, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl taught me that I can't concentrate on fighting in a stage that has a moving background and flashing lights.

The Legend of Zelda series taught me that eating fairies lets you live forever.
