The following are games that are either VERY close to my heart or ones that I acknowledge as gaming perfection and will argue over them.
The Silent Hill Trilogy, without a doubt, totally brilliant atmosphere, music and rusted beauty beneath steel grating. Xenogears is really up there, but I acknowledge a lot of faults it has but it combines so much of what I love, even if the translation is a bit wonky and disc 2 aside its a very beautiful game. To this day Ramsus, in my eyes, is one of the most tragic, sad rpg characters ever..and one of my few video game crushes
. I'm so mad that he was going to be included as a playable character but was axed at the last minute! Planescape Torment is VERY dear to me too, oh my god. Pretty much any of the origin games, like Wing Commander, Privateer, STRIKE COMMANDER. Freespace 1 & 2, Descent..Same applies for Micropose (Xcom, MoO, and MoM) and Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and 3. LOVE Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri too. I love strategy games, if you can't tell. Warcraft 3 and its expansion STILL blow me away just because of the campaigns. The scourge theme music is forever engrained in my skull along with the AWESOME drums of the horde. OH AND SHINING FORCE 2!! !! ! Do I even need to mention Starcraft? Chrono Trigger, Earthbound and Final Fantasy 6 make up a holy trifecta of rpg goodness that is totally unrivaled for me.
The most recent additions to the "sacred" list would probably have to be Demon Souls and its sequel, Dark Souls. Challenging, beautiful and chillingly atmospheric, truly satisfying combat..and did I mention both games were frickin amazing? Screw the other-stated difficulty, yeah it got out of hand a few times (f**k you Stormshrine) but it was one of the only games I've played recently that's really satisfied me. I haven't beat Dark Souls yet but its just like its older brother so its get a place too. Oh and Resident Evil 4. One of the few "perfect" video games I've ever played, beats the socks out of its sequel. Oh and all the pokemon games are sacred to me, yes I love them all. Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, Black and White. I think I have a problem
I could probably think of more games but its late. Basically the early 90s to around the mid to late 90s are like a big golden age of gaming to me.
Oh and the original Doom. I played the shareware version to death and was so hyped to get the full game! Them Bones by Alice in Chains is one of my favorite songs just because it sounds like one of the themes from Doom II. Dark Forces and Hexen are probably my favorite Doom Clones, Dark Forces is my favorite Star Wars game along with the Tie and X-wing sims (RE-RELEASE THESE GOG!! !!). Oh and before I forget: Snatcher. Hideo Kojima's best game ever.
