I already pre-ordered the $350 Nintendo Wii-U deluxe model from Gamestop for the November 18 launch. I also reserved a copy of "New Super Mario Bros. U" to go with it.

Gamestop pre-orders of the $350 deluxe model were sold out after a few days, but they still have the crappy $300 basic model available. It's funny how the basic model is colored white like the original Nintendo Wii.

I'm very excited to be getting a new nintendo console, it's been ages ( not handhelds).
Unfortunately, due to the direction the wii went, very few good games have been released considering the amount of time the wii has been out, which means the wii U is going to have to be a lot better, otherwise it's just another mario and zelda playing machine

I don't want to buy a new console just for these franchise, but if nintendo and co can't design any games i'm interested in then I won't have a choice because I a m a big mario fan and a much bigger zelda fan.

In terms of specs, it isn't that much better than the almost 7 year old xbox 360. I know nintendo aren't about impressive graphics and are more geared towards fun interactive gaming, but I expected it to have a bit more power than this. Some of the games coming out for it do look good, but I can't really justify the price, especially considering I just got the 3DS XL. For anyone getting it, it will be backwards compatible with all your old wii controllers and games which is quite good. For anyone in the UK, all of the Wii classic controllers at Game are currently £5.

If it's backwards compatible to the Wii, it's also compatible to the Gamecube as well 8)

Speaking of which, I've seen a gamecube on sale for £20 secondhand at CEX. Extremely tempted to rebuy it. I once stupidly sold it and games to a friend and always regretted it. Mainly because I never completed Metroid Prime ,lol.

When I first saw the Wii U, I thought it was a portable gaming system because there was a screen on the controller! Man, was I fooled....

At E3 they said it's supposed to be more powerful than both the PS3 and Xbox360. I don't think all the exact hardware specs have been released yet though.

That isn't the least bit surprising since Nintendo's console had more powerful hardware and better graphics than Sony Playstation during the PS1 and PS2 era.

It's the only next gen system I'll bother getting, seeing as to how there will apparently be more third party support and better online. That, and there's talk about Microsoft trying to get rid of used games altogether which I can't support, and they'll just be more of the same anyway. That said I'm no as excited for the WiiU as I was for the Wii. The pad is still a neat idea, especially used in conjunction with the Wiimote, but it would seem that they are not really focusing on motion controls at all anymore. Why not expand on them and improve them? There's room for both.

The Wii-U is also going to have a trophy/achievement system of some sort like the PS3 and Xbox360. That should be interesting.

In terms of the CPU its nothing too exciting. It will be running on the Power7 chip which can be 4-8 cores. The PS3 chip is running 8 cores already. It has double the RAM of the 360, running at 1GB for games, it has 2GB but the rest is used for the OS and such. As for the GPU, I've not heard any solid news on what that's going to be, apart from it being by AMD. Based on the different games I've seen played, it doesn't look to be overly superior. But who knows, maybe that will improve once games are properly designed to make use of the hardware.

Specs and such aside, I don't think it will be close to matching the original Wii's success. But I do think it will have a good library of great games like most Nintendo consoles. I'll be interested to see how they make use of the gamepad. Make sure you take care of that thing, that alone is going to retail for £100! 8O

Its not going to support gamecube discs I'm afraid. So I would hang on to your original Wii if you still have one. If you're after a gamecube you can get them quite regularly on Gumtree and eBay for £10 or less if you collect as some sellers charge £10 for postage alone. It can help if you buy it as a bundle as well, I got my black gamecube with 5 games for £20 inc delivery.

I'm sure the Wii-U has at least a little better hardware than the six year old PS3 though. When the first Wii came out Nintendo made sure it was slightly more powerful than the Xbox1.

I pre ordered the premium version from GameStop.com as well as ZombiU, NSMBU, and Pikmin 3.

Truthfully, I was disappointed with the Wii, but I'm liking where Nintendo is headed when it comes to how they deal with third party developers. Funding and publishing two games from Platinum is awesome, as is publishing the Fatal Frame franchise. There are also rumors that Nintendo is looking to buy back Rare and put them on another Banjo/Kazooie game.

It would be sweet if you could run software on the controller to pretty much make it a stand alone unit. Some examples would be emulators, video player etc. I'm sure someone will hack it after it is released to utilize it is this manner.

I have a question about the Wii U:

I understand that it will be possible to switch Wii U game footage between the TV and the game-pad but, will it also be possible to do this with Wii and Gamecube games?
