In RPGs or really any game that allows for extensive character creation, which character do you usually create - presuming you have this one character that you seem to create in every game again and again? Or do you try different characters all the time and do not really have a preference?

I think this is an interesting topic because it can say so much about who we are or would like to be in real life.

I'm female. When I have the choice, my character in a game will be female too 95% of the time. She is usually tall and slim and beautiful and just like I would love to look like :D Dark long hair, usually. When there's a class to choose, I rarely choose pure mage or melee classes, but usually stuff like ranger, rogue, classes with ranged fight or some aspect of stealth (or sometimes black magic, like a warlock).

As for personality and choices, my characters are usually rather introverted, love justice, and can be cold and a bit manipulating, but I don't pick evil as*hole choices. In that matter, they are exactly like me, except that I'm shy and insecure sometimes, which they never are.

Fantasy RPGs: Rogue/Thief, human, male, average appearance, exceptional dexterity, and possessing extensive arcane knowledge. Primary weapon is the Rapier, secondary is the Dagger. Transportation of choice is the Thoroughbred Horse.

Science-fiction RPGs: Technician/Engineer, human, male, average appearance, exceptionally intelligent, and specializing in computers, sensors, and security systems. Primary weapon is the Body Pistol (Walthers PPK), secondary weapon is the Dagger. Vehicle of choice is the Grav Cycle.

In any case, my characters are tactically intuitive, well diciplined, thrifty, reserved, and not prone to unnecessary risk-taking - although if the price is right, they will take on almost any challenge.

My characters are usually the last of the adventuring party to die in battle.

The last game I played with a lot of choices was City of Heroes which unfortunately went out of business. It had a ridiculously extensive character designer.

I tended to like characters with Elemental Powers. I had a guy that was heavily inspired by Raiden from Mortal Kombat. He could do storm summoning and blast lightning.

Another guy I did for a joke at first. He had Fire abilities and was a loose copy of Tim the Enchanter from Monty Python. Later on I gave him a alternate Dragon/Humanoid form and he was like a badass Fire Reptile guy.

Another thing I like to do is a Mad Scientist theme. I made a guy that controls plants and gave him a really cool mutated look.

Pretty much the same thing here, except I usually play as a female. :)

In MMOs and other games where I interact with others, I play healers. For some reason I have a talent for it, and it's a role that I've found gets me decent respect.

Other games? I tend to favor mobile high damaging characters.

Personality wise I tend to see if I'm inspired by a particular character idea by the theme, if it has roleplaying options. Mass Effect's Femshep for whatever reason made me think of Elizabeth Weir from the Stargate Verse.

I don't have a specific character I make over and over in MMOs.

I haven't played tabletop RPGs in a long time. When I did, I tended to make a variety of characters. I love building characters, especially in point based games, so I end up with a lot of material.

I don't play a lot of RPG's, but when I do I go for the Tank! big, slow, lots of health, and can take hits for days.

I always go for an average sized bulky orc when possible. If not, I'll mostly pick another non human race. I like to be the "stupid" strong force in (MMO)RPG's and I always go for a tanky raging front line warrior. A big shield in one hand and a big mace in the other. SMASH!

On team games I tend to go for tanks or for healers, human ones in general. Sometimes I play rogues too, although more for their RP value than anything else (although in DA a good one had the highest single-target dps). I like my characters tanky, I´m not that good at moving around dodging stuff. In the end though, I play RPG´s as much for the plot as for the gameplay, and have take sub-optimal decisions if the alternative means breaking character.

I tend to make a particular character over and over, named Mistro (pronounced mist-row, and not a misspelling of maestro). Early renditions included albino type features of white hair and red eyes, these days I go with blue hair and green eyes. He sort of has his own story as an inter-dimensional being that goes from dimension to dimension bringing justice or looking for entertainment. I use him as my de facto main character/avatar.

I favor playing healing classes and sometimes tanks, I used to play magi/archers and rarely assassins (farthest from my archetype, I do not play warlock classes, though sometimes necromancer if I can justify it), but I'm not as fond of damage dealers anymore. Discipline Priest from World of Warcraft and Radiant Servant Cleric from DDO are my favorite due to the shielding abilities of the former and potent undead killing/stunning of the latter.

For races I try not to play humans, I prefer short races such as gnomes and dwarves, but sometimes I do play elves and rarely orcs. My alignment is always Neutral Good. I engage in most crafting professions, but especially engineering, jewel crafting, and mining.

I like to be well equipped while leveling and run dungeons with groups while doing so, but at end-game I tend to run around in mediocre gear and spend my time making money for alts and helping newbies, raiding has mostly been too stressful and I can't keep people alive like I can in dungeons. I dislike being the blame for failure, but it is refreshing when people praise my abilities, it is enough to go on in that capacity at least.

I usually create someone who reminds me of myself; usually strong, good with technology and intelligent, but not particularly eloquent or stealthy.

Always female, looks unimportant unless I've developed a backstory requiring a certain appearance. Generally a loner, stealthy, honest, reliable, curious. Sometimes I play a kind, compassionate character, sometimes a ruthless, get-out-of-my-way character. (This can really affect gameplay, determining if I'll do sidequests or not.) Various races. In fantasy games, a ranger; in non-fantasy, someone with access to a sniper rifle. Animal companion if possible. I do have one gnome mage I like. She's a wrinkled old, "get off my lawn" type.

I have a lot of types. Usually a skinny female with as small of boobs as the game will allow, but otherwise they're pretty varied. And I even have some who aren't skinny females (though I never make big boobs).

For example, in World of Warcraft, my three who are over 85 are an undead female, blood elf female and night elf female (all skinny races) but I also have a level 50-something dwarf female (short and stocky). (Along with many other characters.

And in Champions Online, I have mostly all skinny females, except for Smash the Ogre, who is male and has a build similar to The Incredible Hulk.
