Should I get Fallout 4 if I suck at FPS games?

I suck at games like the COD and GTA series because I have slow reflexes at shooters. Is the FPS a pro-eminent part of the game so that I'll get stuck somewhere and stop progressing? I'm asking because I really want to play as I love the FO lore and universe but I'm worried that theres too much focus on FPS and less on RPG.

Fallout, from what I hear, and from what I remember of Fallout 3 (what I played of it anyway) is way more RPG than FPS. Hell, unless it's changed from 3, you've got that screwy "VATS" system, which is sort of a bizarre auto-fire mode that you sorta pause and activate, selecting specific body parts on your target that you want to hit. That attack is then completed for you based on various things that affect the chance. I dont remember just how the system worked in terms of how often you could activate it, but it DRASTICALLY simplified the combat. I had actually gotten a bit bored with it.

But really, you're best off just going and watching some videos of it, and see how it looks to you. This sort of thing really is very subjective. I've heard alot of extremely varying opinions on the game.

Let me just say that I'm twenty hours into fallout 4 and that I think you probably won't like it. It barely resembles an rpg as it has been so stripped down. It also forces a character on you - a worried parent. It's seemingly impossible to be the bad guy. I could so easily go off into a tangent so to keep it short - fallout 4 isn't an rpg, it's a first person shooter adventure game. I've been a bit disappointed with it all.

What he said.

It shoehorns you into this annoying character with a budget voice actor. In fact, "budget" describes pretty much everything about the game since the voice acting is cringey, and the animations are like something from the early milennium.

I don't have the numbers now, but if you go look it up, take a look at how much it cost Bethesda to make Skyrim. Then look at how much they spent on advertising it. It's insane.
They've been using the same engine since Oblivion. Basically just adding some eye candy. It's the same clunky mess with the same unresolved issues. TES 6 is going to have the same problems because they're too greedy to spend a little amount of money on a new engine, and as we know, they've made mountains of money since Oblivion.

I'm not going to spoil too much, but I will say this since it annoyed the heck out of me: a bit into the main questline the game forces you to have the dog as a companion.

Not good for my autism. I wanted to do a lone playthrough, but game forces me to bring the dog. I'm an animal friend IRL, but what enrages me about the dog in Fallout is the attempt to copy the gimmick from Call of Duty: Ghosts. That provokes me so much because it comes across as so tryhard and cliched.

Not only that, but all companions are immortal. Vital questgivers are immortal too. It's not an RPG. It's a half baked FPS that doesn't succeed at being an FPS due to the clunky engine from early 2000s, with something that resembles RPG elements but stripped down so much and with so little thought into skill set diversity(that means some perks are just useless while others are ones you'll pick every time).

It has some amusing moments, but all in all I'm disappointed. I'd expected more.

Mhm, thanks for the advice. If what you guys are saying is true then I guess theres no reason for me to buy it. I guess I'll have to wait a couple of years until a good game I'm able to enjoy comes out :(

I bought it for just that reason: no games to play and I needed escapism.

Wait about a year and it will probably be GOTY edition with all DLC for cheaper than what the vanilla game costs now. It is actually the only sane thing to do as a consumer, considering how DLC now is about stripping the game of content that should have been there to begin with and then make the consumer buy it to make their incomplete, shallow game feel like it should have for the premium price they were charging to begin with.

If you wait and buy the then reduced price full version with all DLC included, you will make a better purchase.

Also, there will be mods to make up for Bethesdas lack of testing, since bug testing is done by the consumers now and it's perfectly okay to release a buggy mess and let others fix it with mods.

The game does provide some escapism, but was it worth the price? No.

Yeah, that'd be more worth my money. Or I could do like how I got Skyrim; I got a used copy for CA$11 and bought the DLC's during a sale.

Have you tried to play FPS games on the easiest difficulty? Fallout 4 has a very easy difficulty setting. ***Spoiler alert***, the melee combat is much more viable with fallout 4, you can upgrade weapons and armor just like in Skyrim. All of your companions are unkillable, they will just be stunned until the fight is over.

Wow, really? They changed it that much from what it was before?

Ugh. I dont even play the game, and this still angers me. All this dumbing down and stripping down and whatever other terms that developers are doing these days for the AAA market.... it's all so freaking irritating. All to cater to those that cant be bothered to TRY at all. Heaven forbid the player miss out on the all-important story because they never increased their skill whatsoever to take on harder challenges, or because they couldnt be bothered to THINK and deal with any complexity. If the player misses the story, they might not buy the publisher's next game! Bah.

I swear, each new release just pushes me further and further away from the land of major AAA games or things that are even remotely close to them. Hell, even the new Anno has been totally ruined by this; none too pleased about this fact. And this after the previous game was EXACTLY what it should have been, and then some.

And next to come is Battlefront, and from all accounts, that one's already in ruins too. Feh.

This is the first time I've come across anyone saying something bad about Fallout 4, apart from the short amount of time it can take to get across the map. Other than that, it's just been praises all-round. But I think what I've read here is much more reliable.

Short to get across the map. I dont know but then again I have adhd I fast travel from and to locations that as kinda close. You can't even sprint infinite anymore.

I love the game, but some things I don't like. Vats doesn't freeze time anymore it just slows it down, armor is now broken up into leg, leg, arm, arm, chest, head. Which is annoying and doesn't look that great. The guns. New Vegas had so many different ones, so did fallout 3, 4 has a s**t ton of variants of one s**t gun made from scrap wood and a pipe called you guess it pipe gun :(. I would have liked all the guns of fallout 3 and added more. I mean come on the army uses standard issue guns they don't have different rifles for each state. However the armies gun for each game has changed. Overall the amount of gun choices is minimal and they got rid of the awesome different types of ammo. Stuff also doesn't get damaged anymore.

And and power armo is now an extroskelton and required rare fusion cores to power it and you drain them so fast running around that when you find a fight it's empty. They could have kept it as a extroskelton and left out the power source and it'd been fine, as is I don't bother with them.

Other then those it's a fun game. I don't mind the voice acting except for when they annoyingly speak over vital information.

To op what exactly do you find hard about fps games?

I get killed because I aim too slow; moving the aim too fast gives me motion sickness. Thats the reason why I couldn't even beat the first mission of GTA V when you have to kill the cops (Yes I can't beat the first mission.)

Well you can hide behind stuff and pause game to heal. With my armor and on very easy I get sit and get shot a lot now. More so if in power armor I'm no fast reaction either. I try to sneak and take them out silently most the time to avoid fire fights.

I wouldn't say I hang around people who are crazy about Bethesda, and I don't really pay attention, but all I've heard about is the terrible glitches, the illusion of choice, terrible dialogue, and all of the changes they made from FO3 (can only really play as one character, way less RPG elements, etc).

But I did learn something useful. Apparently a lot of the Elder Scrolls and the post-Interplay FO games have a game breaking glitch where if you use auto-save or quick-save a lot, your save file will balloon in size until the game can't handle it, either crashing to desktop or rebooting your computer (depending on OS).

I guess if you don't like fop shooters than fallout 4 sounds more like a fps/rrpg combo.

I can't beat the first mission in GTA either.....but Fallout is not the same type of game. You would have a much easier time playing it.
