A friend here gave me an idea; write out ideas for a video game. I'm going to design a RPG, as I love them the most. I've always dreamt of making a RPG, and this is the best way I can do it without taking TAFE courses to learn programing and that. It may never be made into a real game; but at least I can get ideas for when I'm older and when I know how to make games. Who else thinks I sould do it?

I hope you do it.I have one idea I would love to see incorporated into RPG's.

You know how there are all these ingredients to mix together to make "fighting spells",etc....and you can find them laying around and collect them or buy them or win them from the person you fight(like robbing the corpse)....I think it would be really cool, if instead of the silly names they use....someone would design a program using ACTUAL chemicals and herbs.

By doing that....you could actually learn the skill to be an herbologist or chemist and have fun learning.

Thats a game I would love to play...something where I could learn real skills,(herbs, chemistry, sign language, yoga, gem stones) and "useful information",not just some random words.....

Good luck....turn your passion into cash!! !!

There's a flip-side to that. What if you get told on how to make bombs? However, I agree with you. I even wish you had textbooks on GBA cartridges.....

Actually, here's an interesting game that has similar implications....Re-Mission.

Why not get an RPG Maker program?

RPG Maker 2000 was pretty popular in its day. Then RPG Maker 2003 came around with some upgraded features. 2000 is still widely favored over 2003 though, mostly for 2000's superior battle system. 2003's system needed all kinds of new sprites for it's more graphically intensive battles and it was just a mess.

RPG Maker XP was recently released too. It's definitely the most versatile engine since it can be customized using the Ruby Scripting system, though one could still make an excellent game with almost no programming knowledge. It's what I use myself.

If you don't have the money for the XP license, I'd suggest doing a search for RPG Maker 2000 as it's probably second best.

I'm not sure RedMage will be able to access a computer all the time. Plus she may not understand how to use RPG Maker....

I see. Yeah, I suppose a lack of a computer would make it tough.

Hey, and I found using RPG Maker tough going anyway. I couldn't really figure out how to get started, really, though I made up some char models and battle music....

I used RPG Maker some years ago, I downloaded an spanish version of RPG Maker 2003. I had an story, I made many maps and designed sprites for one fo my characters, also I had my first quest ready. But my dad formated our PC and I lost all my progress.

I got pissed off, and I left my RPG project. Then, when I wanted to do it again I had to leave it again, because I read Bt'X manga, and I discovered my story was very similar to it. Now, I have other story in my mind, but I have other plans for it because I think it doesn't compatible with RPG elements.

RedMage, you can try RPG Maker. Don't worry if you don't know how to use it, you can learn easily with some practice, and there are a lot of tutorials on the web.

I have had my PC for more than 6 years, and RPG Maker worked on it. I think your nanna's PC is better and faster than my lame PC.

My nanna's PC is so slow that even The Sims doesn't work.

There was also a Playstation version of RPG maker I think...and maybe a later PS2 version?

The problem with those is it would be much harder to upload your RPG to other people, and typing in text would be REALLY hard without a keyboard! (Although maybe the PS2 one would work with a USB keyboard.)

Seems like there should be some other PC programs that let you make RPGs.

I was on a site that had Zelda clones. I can't remember the address, but I think the program you used to make them (and the games people made) were all free. I'm not sure you could exactly make an RPG with it though. Everything people made still ended up kind of working like the original Legend of Zelda.

I'd rather not make an actual RPG though, as it's too hard for me.
