Let's start a console war!
Tell what your favorite video game console is and why.

Mine is the Nintendo Gamecube. This was the first console I ever owned, and it's the one I spent the most time playing video games on. I really liked the shape of it, and it was a lot smaller and more portable than the bulky Xbox and Playstation 2 at the time. There are also tons of great games for it like Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Monkey Ball, Pokemon Colosseum, Super Smash Bros. Melee, F-Zero GX, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and Super Mario Sunshine. It had great graphics at the time, and the controller fits my hand better than any other.

I know this is supposed to be a war, but... I agree, the Gamecube is the best. It was my first console too and Gamecube remotes are the only controllers I am good at all with because I'm more of a PC gamer now. In fact: I have recently ordered an adapter that allows Gamecube controllers to be hooked up to my PC and I have a Gamecube emulator, and also I might be able to configure other more modern games to use them.

I heard console war? My answer is: One PC to rule them all.

But seriously. Everything after the PS2 Era is just a rubbish underperformaning cashgrab. In a time when consoles were mainly offline they had some good advantages like stability, ease of use, compatibility and sometimes even performance. Todays consoles now get upgraded versions because they cant even keep up with a cheap midrange computer, games are as buggy as PC games because you can patch them afterwards, backwards compatibility now gets sold as a "feature" and isnt even real because the games are ports and they are overloaded with mediacenter/online features instead of focussing on their main porpuse - gaming. Not to mention 80€ + DLC games like Call of Duty: Whateverthistimeagain Warfare/Ops.

I think the PS2 was the pinnacle in the timeline of consoles. It had good performance for the time, great games and while could go online, it wasnt designed as an "online console". It did everything right. The only nice console after it may be the wii, but the wii was pretty unique in it concept...

Man, I was there for THE Console War!

I've probably logged more hours into the NES and the SNES than any other system I own. Sure I enjoy time on the PlayStations (except 4, don't own it yet) and the Sega consoles, but I've never strayed far from the Nintendo consoles over the years. Which makes me all the more anxious when I watch the developments of the NX.

Probably the NES/Famicom.
It has a HUGE library, a lot of very creative titles, great chiptunes, colorful games, memorable experiences, etc...a lot of great series that are still around today got their start there, and just feeling the vibes from that era, without the games feeling quite as dated as a lot of games from older consoles do.

Sure, the technical limitations were an issue sometimes, with things like slowdown and sprite flickering, but still a lot of great titles in spite of this. It was mostly things like arcade ports that really suffered from it.

Heck, even the bad games can provide hours of entertainment, as people like Seanbaby and AVGN can attest to.

The Sega Genesis, obviously. It has blast processing.

SNES, it had the best games, a seemingly never ending selection of them.

The only console I ever owned was the Sega Master System. Much later I had a Genesis emulator but not sure that's quite the same as the actual console. The bulk of my game play has been on an iPod simply for being portable, readily accessible and having an endless supply of free games to try when I get bored. Apart from that I have a few games on my iMac but that's hardly a gaming machine.

I've never owned a SNES (It was a bit before my time), but I have the GBA ports of Super Mario World and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and those are my absolute favorite 2D Mario and Zelda games, respectively, and both originated on the SNES.

I'm also a Gamecube fan I spent so much time playing games like Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros Melee, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Harvest Moon, and Zelda the WindWaker.

I really liked the Sega Saturn even though I never had one. I think I may say PS1 though because that was what I had when I was most into gaming and there were a ton of JRPGs.

Yeah, I can agree with alot of that, particularly being a PC gamer myself though.

To be totally fair though, consoles do have one massive advantage over PCs: no Windows. There's a general lack of random failure or stupidity when using a console. I like that the damn things JUST FREAKING WORK. When I use my Wii U, I know it'll just do whatever I tell it. Wheras the PC... well, everyone knows how Windows is. Sometimes it seems like it's sitting there thinking about wether or not it'll bother to follow whatever command was given to it, as opposed to just doing it.

Mostly the reason I like PC though is just the massive selection. And then the emulators added to that.



But favorite CONSOLE of all time? Easy, the NES. All these years later, and I still just love that thing. The Atari 2600 (or 7800, since it could play all 2600 games) coming in second. I also really like my Wii U alot. Other than that though... I've not been to fond of most recent console stuffs. I have a PS4 but it doesnt exactly get much use. The 360 and PS3 were the same; hell, I didnt even know where the PS3 was for like a freaking year, and.... didnt care enough to look for it. I wont even speak of the original Wii. To say I disliked it is an understatement. So I definitely prefer the older consoles, yep.

The NES will always be the one that stands out most to me though.

I like the PS1. All nostalgia aside it has a tremendous, versatile library of games and no account-browser BS.

"Oh, you want to play a game? Let's just connect you to the store...perhaps you would like to update your DLC..."

Ill give you that. Windows sucks. But since computers were and are my special interest i usually know what to do to fix the damn thing^^ But to be COMPLETELY fair console systems f**k up too. XBox One has just a crippled version of windows 10 running, to play newer games you need system updates instead of driver updates, software failures DO happen (a friends PS3 would hang up in menu sometimes randomly) and because everything is so cramped up inside these boxes with bad ventilation things like RROD/YLOD happen. I mean what the f**k? Literally self desoldering chips! This happens less on lower performance console like nintendos offerings, but i like to exclude nintendo out of this because they are so different to the mainstream console systems that i think they should be viewed at on their own. They also have a very different target audience...

Oh wow, i didnt even knew such a thing existed. It never came out here in europe Pretty funny how VR flopped hard in the 90s, but is going so strong 20 years later^^
