Wow I had no idea they were still doing Silent hill games. Ive played I and II and particularly in the case of the original Ive never played a game that creeped me out more than silent hill.

I haven't been that impressed since the 7th Guest came out. I might have to grab a PS3 just to play this one.

The storyline to Silent Hill 5 is-

Apparently, the storyline is based around a solider named Alex Sheppard who has recently returned from a war to find his father missing and his mother in a vegetative state. The only person left for Alex is his brother, Joshua who too has gone missing. Alex sets out to find his brother Joshua. Alex can use his millitary training to use as mele combat as seen in Silent Hill: Origins.

Charecters

Alex Shepherd
Image
Age: 22
Occupation: Ex-Solider
About: Alex Shepherd is the main role of Silent Hill V, he is a solider returning home from a war who comes home to find his mother in a catatonic state, and his beloved brother and his father missing. He sets out to find them on Shepherd's Glen and onward to Silent Hill. His view on war is rather unusual. In the E3 2007 trailer, a monologue of a character we assume is Alex says "War is Hell, but there are worse things. War changes you and nobody back home could ever understand. They never understood me. They say you can't go home again - but they're wrong. I just don't want to." What does this tell us about his character? Clearly the things which he has witnessed in war may have driven him a little insane.

Elle
Image
Age: Alex's Age, 22(?)
Occupation: Unknown
About: Elle is a long-time friend of Alex. She is said to be "like Maria from Silent Hill 2 she is said to have streetwise sexiness but retains the relatable girl-next-door cuteness of SH3 heroine Heather." It appears she has a history with Alex which might mean that there could be a love story somewhere. So far it is unclear if she will be A.I controlled or actually playable.

Joshua Shepherd
Image
Age: Unknown
Occupation: Unknown
About: Joshua is Alex's younger brother who has recently has gone missing on Alex's return home from war. It seems as though he has go to the town of Silent Hill. Early videos and screenshots suggest Alex will be following a trail of clues laid out by Joshua throughout the game. However, Joshua isn't acting his normal self - something's different about him in Silent Hill.

Mr. Shepherd
Age: Unknown
Occupation: Unknown
About: Alex's and Joshua's Father has also gone missing on Alex's Return home. Nothing more is known about this character yet.

Mrs. Shepherd
Age: Unknown
Occupation: Unknown
About: Alex's and Joshua's Mother. Alex find's her in a catatonic state on his return home before searching for his missing Brother and Father. Nothing more is known about this character yet.

Some weird looking monsters there, and the infamous nurses.

Mmm. Gotta love that wrinkly nurse cleavage.

Seriously, though, I'm excited for this but a tad worried. I don't feel that any of the "Silent Hill" games are as good as they SHOULD be, you know? Like--they're all good (especially 2 and 3), but there's always something, like it recycles too much from previous games (3) or the controls suck (2 and 3) or the graphics are outdated (2) or there are some truly awful puzzles (2 and 4) or it makes you play through the same damn level too many times (4) or it doesn't make complete sense (all of them). Wouldn't it be wonderful if SH5 turned out to be the best of the series? I doubt it, naturally, but...I can hope. XD

This is the second Silent Hill game to be developed outside of Japan (Origins was the first). Anyone get the feeling that Silent Hill needs a Resident Evil 4 style revolution?

I only played Silent Hill 4, it was easily the most boring game I've ever played on the PS2 and I never finished it.

It had terrible controls, no cohesion whatsoever between one section and the next and the puzzles were out of place, there was basically long sections where you just wandered around trying to trigger the next cutscene. The combat was truly awful and just felt like it was artificially lengthening the game, as even the most basic enemies, despite being easy to kill took several hits to finally roll over and die. The camera also gave you headaches the whole way through.

While those screenshots look nice, the sequel will have to do a lot more than just have good graphics to interest me.
