What are the specs and what games are you looking at?

Shouldn't be too hard to upgrade, unless you've got a slim, or a notebook, or a motherboard that predates PCIe, or something like that.

i finally finished "Really Feeling" Xenoblade Chronicles. that was a really long game. i cried many times during the story. it was very intense and emotional.

what brought me in was the sheer mass of the world in the game. what made me stay was the fascinating story.

That sounds pretty decent to me. My rig is similar, but you have twice as much RAM. Videogames are all about graphics these days, so a faster CPU isn't going to improve much, unless it's a poorly programmed console port like GTA IV.

Do you know what kind of video hardware you have? I assume it's embedded, some of which isn't terrible. It might even be enough to get some semi-recent games running (there's usually compatibility lists online)...but if you need more horsepower, you can always put a new video card in there, I would be very surprised if you don't have a PCIe slot. Might require a power supply upgrade also (more watts), but those are pretty cheap.

Recently got back into Dota 2 and trying ranked mode to see if i'm getting a better experience with the game. I sort of am, but there are so many people with an obscenely large ego who cannot realize that they need to get their heads out their bums and realize that they mistakes. Also people are actually picking supports which is something i rarely see when i am playing unranked. I should be happy, but i have been playing support for such a long time that i forgot how to properly play carries that are not Sven.

You could do some old gaming with that like Zelda and stuff through emulators. Also depends on you GPU but thats not a horrible rig if you avoid newer titles. I game on my Laptop a lot and its weaker.

How new are we talking? I've run RAGE just fine, not sure if anything else is that demanding. Maybe UE4? Though I'm not sure that anything using UE4 has actually been released yet...

The processor is a budget model from 2007, I wouldn't try to run anything beyond 2008/2009 on it but it massively depends on his GPU. Most people consider retro gaming as anything before 2000 which was more or less what I was recommending, newer doesn't always mean better. There are tons of gems from the 90s and thats what I mostly play on my laptop.

I want to play FFX! I have Xenoblade Chronicles, but I've barely played it since last Christmas.
I'm playing Fire Emblem Awakening so far. I'm having severe issues on hard mode since I've lost more than half my army and I'm not even halfway through the game.

RAGE is from late 2011, and runs fine on that CPU.

I've probably played newer games too, but it doesn't look like the Steam client has a column for release dates, so I don't know the exact year for most of my games.

Like I said before, modern games shouldn't use much CPU, unless they're programmed wrong or don't support hardware acceleration or something weird like that. The GPU should carry all of the workload, with very little math for the CPU to compute, since most games these days have everything pre-scripted. Even physics can be processed by the GPU now.

[PC]
Child of Light
Minecraft
Silent Hill 2

[PSP]
Crazy Tax Fare Wars
Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy
Silent Hill Origins

[Wii]
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Cursed Mountain

I am getting an Xbox 360 soon so I'll probably play Halo 3, 4 and reach. I never played beyond Halo 2 because I am PC gamer and consoles don't really interest me. I have a PSP and Wii only because they were giving to me and/or were very cheap. I actually have three Wii consoles and had two PSPs, I sold one of the PSP and when I buy a replacement power cord for one of my Wii's I will sale it.

Dipping back into this one a bit. Every now and then I want a little Joust, Robotron: 2084, Satan's Hollow, Smash TV, and Wizard of Wor.

Played a bit of these two and they just ended up annoying me. Think I'll be sticking with Lego City Undercover for the time being. It's a hell of a lot more fun.
