I've gotten into Little Cup recently; I really like seeing Pokémon I haven't ever really seen battle. It's also interesting learning about what strategies are effective there compared to the standard metagame. Substitute+priority is a deadly combination there. This is a pretty awesome Carvanha set to use:

Image
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Aqua Jet
move 3: Crunch
move 4: Zen Headbutt
item: Life Orb
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 236 Spe

Normally, Croagunk is the perfect Carvanha counter. Carvanha has no defenses, and Croagunk is immune to Aqua Jet thanks to Dry Skin. It can also destroy Carvanha without taking a hit thanks to Fake Out and Vacuum Wave. But with Substitute and Zen Headbutt, not even Croagunk can stop it. Fake Out breaks the Substitute, but then Carvanha strikes back with a 4x super effective Zen Headbutt (Substitute blocks the flinch from Fake Out).

That's not until the National Dex, of course.

I have strained eyes today, but I fixed two movesets. My gimmicky Articuno has Mind Reader, Sheer Cold, Reflect and Roost. Too bad Stone Edge is so common, or it would have incredible durability. The problem is that a critical nullifies the Reflect.
I also put elemental punches and High Jump Kick on my Medicham. Now I just need to beef it up a bit.

Five more items to complete the Villa.

Edit: No, six.

Having a team of six Pickup Pokémon is great; you'll be surprised just how fast you can get some cool stuff. It's awesome to be able to get the fourth-gen evolutionary stones over and over, even when I'm not going to use them. They sell for a lot.

I have three Villa items left to get. Two will take care of themselves at the same time (the "hatch 30 eggs" and "walk 300,000 steps" and the other one I haven't bought just because I can't afford it right now.

The Villa's one of my favorite new features in Platinum (obviously, other than the Battle Frontier). I can't wait until I learn how to RNG abuse so I can get all the items (won't be hatching too many eggs until then) and so I can get the Ribbon Syndicate's expensive ribbons to put on my flawless shiny Milotic. I decided on Milotic to put the ribbons on since it seems like the perfect choice: it's rare, it's beautiful, and it seems kind of regal to me.

How much have you done in the Underground? That's my favorite part of DPP easily. It's fun to wander around looking for treasures to dig up, even though I can't get any of the rocks out of my secret base (I had to cheat to get Spiritomb since I couldn't talk to anyone underground). I like the Secret Bases in RSE better, just because you could find all kinds of tucked-away places for them.

Curious, has the HG/SS come out in Canada as well as in the US? I want it so badly :)

I'm half-heartedly planting berries, so I might not have enough time before HG/SS. The Villa; Battle Frontier; The Battleground; Oak and Rowan actually reacting to legendaries being caught; Detective Looker. Platinum made a great leap.

I got lots of Ribbons for my Empoleon in Pearl. It's probably my all-time favourite starter. It's a royal penguin. Made of steel! :P
Which is almost sad, because Empoleon stole the spotlight from Torterra, which would otherwise have been my first Grass starter.

In Platinum, I have just gotten what I have needed from the underground. I got the fossils while looking for Red Shards. (Before I found out about the Fuego Ironworks exchange service.)
In Pearl, I spent lots of time in the Underground, because digging for treasure rocks. (Yay, pun!)
The Secret Bases above ground were more interesting than the one here, though.

About the Villa, I can't help but wonder about the player character's piano skills. Did he want to be a musician before he got into pokemon training, or something? :)
(It could be an automatic piano, but that's not as amusing.)

^^^
I think that's due to some of the original exclusives having new evolutions. I think I'll also get HeartGold, but mostly because I like Kyogre slightly more than Groudon. Ursaring makes it a tough choice, though.

It's hard to pick moves for a Togekiss. :? Sky Attack is powerful, but without lots of Power Herbs, it won't get used often, so that one is out. Extreme Speed is good, but Togekiss doesn't really have comfortable stats for it.
Air Slash is great for Togekiss, and Aura Sphere is a good move for anyone with high sp. atk.
Then it gets tougher. Shockwave, Water Pulse, Hyper Beam, Heatwave and Ancient Power all have their uses.

I'm trying out Zubat for the first time :) Recommended moves? Also, does it use Fly?
I just can't stand Starly :P

It can use Fly, at least when it's evolved. Poison Fang can make an opponent flinch, and it also has a 10 % chance of inflicting "bad poison" / Toxic poison. When it becomes Crobat, it can learn Cross Poison, which is a stronger attack, but I think that the special effects of Poison Fang are better.
Confuse Ray can be incredibly useful. Especially since Zubat is fast enough to hit first most of the time.

Starly is my favourite variation of Pidgey. I like Starly and Hoot Hoot much better than Pidgey, Spearow and Taillow.
Staraptor is quite a strong attacker.

I would just like to say I've never been happier to work a fast paced, on your feet all day retail food service job.

Two days. 88,000 steps in the Pokewalker. Today's Magby came with Sunny Day on it. That flying Pikachu is as good as mine :)

But I am also miffed that I can't get Ursaring in HG. My girlfriend's got SS, so eventually she can trade me one. And I could always trade one over from my Platinum file, but I'm only approaching Gym 2, so I'd have problems with it leveling too fast. Guess some bear mauling action will have to wait.

Beats me in one stroke every time. :P
It doesn't even matter if my pokemon is faster or slower.

It's just so ugly :P Taillow and Spearow are horrible, never really used Pidgey or Hoot Hoot though. I usually try to avoid normal pokemon too, luckily Bidoof turns into a water evo. Maybe next time I'll try Starly, that's when I'm planning on using Pippip and I'll be happy enough to finally use water :)
Zubat sounds awesome :)
I'm annoyed at how many bug pokemon I'm catching, usually there's at least one psychic pokemon I can catch around the second gym, bleh :P I did get a Gastly though :) Do you have to trade to get a Haunter to become a Gangar? Luckily I have two ds systems, yeah :)

Ugh, why didn't I check the moves that Pachirisu had? Besides Spark, there's only one other electric move that it learns naturally :( *searches for another electric pokemon that is not Shrinx*

I like strong Normals, like Ursaring, Snorlax, or Porygon Z, for example. Especially that they can often learn so many different moves. That said, I rarely actually use them. :)

Ooo, Gengar! This is pretty cool: Yeah, normally you'd have to trade, but if you can find a Sapphire, Ruby or Emerald to put in the same DS, you can catch wild Gengar in the haunted mansion in Eterna Forest.
Oh, but I don't remember if you had to get the National Pokedex first.

To be fair, Spark and Discharge are very reliable paralysers. In Pearl, I used Pachirisu's speed to paralyse and to cut HP in half with Super Fang. It's not a strong fighter, but a nice utility pokemon.

I personally like Shinx's evolution Luxray. It pretty much only learns Spark and Charge, but it also gets stuff like Swagger and Crunch.
If you can get a Magnemite, keep in mind that you can easily get a Magnezone if you level up Magneton anywhere inside Mount Coronet. Even with a Rare Candy.

Edit: Hmm. Tyranitar. So many possible movesets. Maybe I should raise half a dozen.
I'm thinking Aerial Ace, Stone Edge, Earthquake, and something. Maybe an Aqua Tail, or a Fighting Move. Something like Thunder could also be good. Crunch isn't too bad. Outrage might not work so well, though.

I really like Aerial Ace, it never misses, right? It's my favourite as a bird pokemon move though. I'm not fond of Earthquake though :P
Curious, how does the GTS or whatever that global thing in Jubitown? I want to trade some of the pokemon that I evolved but don't want to use but don't have anybody else nearby who plays pokemon.

I'm experimenting with breeding a little, haven't done it before. Any tips?

EDIT: Wow, pokemon are a little...active...;)
I got three eggs at the same time now :P I've already hatched another 3, including some failure attempts :P
Also, I got some pokrus virus pokemon now :)
