The first "computer" game I played was (I think) some Commodore 64 game which involved shooting aliens... it was kinda like Space Invaders, except the aliens were faster and more agile.

I think the first "video" game I played was one of the early Mario Bros. games.

This thread makes me feel old

I couldn't tell you the first game I played, my mom said I was 18 months old when I started playing.

All I know is the first game I ever beat was Adventure (Atari 2600) on easy mode.

It gives you a seizure when you beat it =D

A far cry from today, where Nintendo puts a mandatory seizure warning just for booting up the console

Space Wars, which is what Asteroids is from, I played this in 1978 when it
came out at a pinball parlor in Edmonton and one called Tanks which was
on the old Atari 2600 back in 1977

The original Super Mario Brothers for the NES was the first game I can clearly remember playing.

Let's see
the furthest I can remember is probably Sim City for the SNES.
That might also be tied with "Shining Force" for the Genesis (one of the finest turn based RPGs of all time) and "Super Mario World".

The first game I vividly remember FINISHING is "Diablo" for the PC, which I did when i was 8. Yes, my dad let me play "Diablo" when I was eight because I knew that none of it was real and it was a fantasy game. I played that game for years after Diablo II, because of all the rare equipment that spawns randomly in the dungeons with every play. Diablo II did that as well, but Diablo I didn't have an infinite amount. You basically knew all the unique items and there was always several you wanted but could never get.

The crazy thing about my dad is that he's a devout Christian and a regestered Republican, but he's also a huge Pink Floyd fan and a Dungeons & Dragons player for 30-odd years. He always knew that the satanic panic over D&D was awful stupid, because any hardcore biblethumper looking for satanic incantations would be bored out of their skull by a normal D&D game.

I can't remember the first video game I played, but my earliest memories are of Chip 'n' Dale (NES) and Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (Sega Genesis)

Actually, I might have played a few games before Pokémon Red, but they were demos of Humungous Entertainment games, which are point and click adventures designed for younger gamers, (I was quite young then)

I'm surprised that this topic is still going considering it was one of my first topics.
