Nor does ventrilo currently work on either the PS3 or the Xbox 360, (I leave out the Wii, because I'm not sure if they have an integrated online network as the other two do, nor do I consider very many games on the Wii worthy of the title.)

Unfortunately I can't see ventrilo working any time soon on either network just because both companies are notorious for keeping thing proprietary and they'd rather force you to pay for their own crappy voice network instead of allowing you to host ventrilo servers or join them.

You would likely be able to get more people together on a free game that would work on slower computers and internet connections, also preferably with more OSes than just Windows. I would suggest AssaultCube as a good FPS (for the restrictions I noted), but the game is somewhat glitchy/laggy and I doubt that many people would find it as fun as I do. (on the topic of open source games, VegaStrike is very good for single player, however the MMO functionality is still in an alpha development stage)

The PS3 voice chat is actually a free feature. However, you are correct about it being crappy.

you don't really need vent and the only crappy voice network is the ps3's as microsoft have been running online gaming services on their consoles almost eight years now and if it seems bad to you it is all down to the quaility of your microphone equipment

Maybe you guys could also invest into a dedicated server for a game that most of you commonly played as long as you actively tried to fill the server. Also putting in "<Insert Clan Name Here>" "24/7" "Rotation Map" "Network" Server name?

u know that easiest way to do that would be someone with more then 50mb to host one it should take max 5mb if 50 players dependeing on game after i get my own apartment i want to get 100mb

Oh I've heard microsoft's voice program as I have a 360. And it's pretty crappy in comparison to Vent lol. The fact that you can't customize near to what you can on vent also isn't helpful.

Also, microsoft's wonderful proprietary microphone system is bullsh!t. The ultra tiny male connector in the controller severely limits the hardware you're able to use, whereas a computer can use any microphone, barring those tiny ass ones from MS.
