I've never thought the Fallout universe is anything special. Don't get me wrong, I like it and it's a decent implementation of the post-apocalyptic setting - though there are major consistency issues between the games - and the retro-futurism is kinda neat, but it's not a particularly unusual setting. It's more Oblivion (generic fantasyland, forsooth) than Morrowind (dust, bones and dead crabs), if you take my meaning.

Why not just play the single-player Fallouts then? They, too, have the "Fallout universe" and no "others" to ruin it for you. Most importantly, they actually have choice&consequence - something that has not been successfully implemented in any major MMO thus far.

I love it when people admit to buying MMO to pretty much play it solo or with a small group of people 90% of the time locked in claustrophobic dungeons hacking at some boss to get his shiny belt. It just boggles the mind.

I already played all the released Fallout games, several times each. I would hope that a FO MMO would have choice and consequence, maybe they'll be the first ones to implement it.

I won't be playing alone, I'll be playing with my brother and whoever decides they want to join my group. Fallout isn't really known for dungeons, and I hate gear based MMO's which is why I played City of Heroes/Villains, rather than World of Warcraft. Plus WoW is boring.

I don't think you can understand the way I'm thinking. Whatever though, I'm gonna enjoy me some Fallout.

You forgot that the fallout universe is all about those pain in the asses everywhere. Of course. Fallout is not meant to be E rated, where everyone holds your hands and sings songs. The Fallout mmo should all be about surviving out there in the wasteland. Hell, town creation should be a plus. Don't like certain people? Also, hoping Fallout Online is "PVP-FFA" orientated. There are npcs in fallout that curses btw :P That being said. Interplay > Bethesda.

Really.

I've never seen an exchange like this in any of the Fallout games, but you see it happen in pretty much every MMO that is not, as someone put it, "fascist".

So yeah, I want a "fascist" MMO, that actually maintains the intended feel of its universe. It's not about "bad behavior" or "bad language", it's about ret*ds being allowed to roam free. You know exactly what I am talking about.

Thats the good thing about MMO's with PvP in them, you can gank people who piss you off. Like someone have a racist sounding character name or "Sp33ks l33t". In WoW for example, telling someone that they are being an ass while shoving a sword through their head, is a good way of getting their attention.

And the ignore feature/word filter in MMOs is also a good thing.

The best thing that could happen is to place all damn kids on one server and let us grownups play alone.

Okay leave the racist sounding character names outta the mmo. And who really speaks "l33t". I have seen none. I seen someone rapping to a GM. Also, FOOL should have town creations? I mean, a town outta nowhere in the middle of a wasteland.

I was always hoping for a merge of the RPG of Fallout 1 and the fighting of Fallout Tactics (though with more stuff added to this latter bit; think Jagged Alliance 2).

Alas, that'll never happen.

Ok, so because you haven't seen anyone do it, then its not a problem. Thanks for sharing.

I on the other hand have seen it (and other types of immature behaviour) in more than one MMO. Even in one mature post apoc MMO that is supposed to have 18+ aged players only.

Wow, some pretty interesting discussion here...

My problem with FOOL besides the fact that it would be a massive time-sink (and I just don't have that kind of time) is that I just don't see how it could be Fallout.

Sure, it might look like Fallout, it might have Vault folk and Tribals and Mutants and Ghouls etc BUT that's not Fallout.

Fallout appeals to me in a way that fantasy based games don't because it's science fiction. When done correctly, science fiction is simply a venue for social satire and thought experiment--that takes well written, well designed quests that are morally ambiguous and have real, unintended consequences for the game world...

I just don't see how you could do any of that in mmo...

I have to disagree with monsterland here:

In some well written Fallout 2 style satire you absolutely would see an exchange like that! I hope Chris A. brings that element back to the Fallout universe with New Vegas...

Guess we'll see in November! :)

well i honestly would like to ba able to play the game in a co-op mode, but not like online with a whole bunch of other people . With like different games like capture the flag and crap like that. But would enjoy a lil co-op with a friend. It gets a lil lonely in the wasteland .

Yeah, I do hope MCA bring some excellent writing in FO:NV.

The best thing about that quote, you can complain about spelling but your brain already read what's type.

That never stopped Fallout 3 from selling boatloads of copies :x

Indeed. I had my Fallout 3 shortcut renamed to Capital Wasteland Adventures.

The "lulziness" of Fallout2 was a big step toward horrible idiocy they got away with in Fallout3, and a step away from Fallout's atmosphere. I never passed Fallout2.

It no longer felt like a consistent universe, partially because of lulziness, partially because of "we'll just stick it full of s**t we think is cool" attitude (later continued by Bethesda), and partially because it no longer resembled the core idea of Fallout - a desolate, ruined universe.
