I've always felt Morrowind was a superior game to Oblivion despite the clear superiority of the new engine oblivion uses. Morrowind had a more atmospheric alien world that was more appealing to me.

I love Morrowind, my current character is an ex High Ordinator who left the Temple and decided to travel around the island, camping out in caves, tombs and shrines. He's doing this with Jiub, the one you come on the boat with. He got turned into a vampire too, and he's been feasting on bandits while gathering followers. He destroyed Ald Velothi, killing and enslaving everyone. Jiub's the second in command.

Great game, lots of roleplaying opportunities. Oblivion's good too, but you don't really feel like you're in a different world when you're playing it, even if it is fun. One thing I will say though, stealth and thieving are much better in Oblivion, playing a thief is just better, probably because of the engine Oblivion uses.

Good news, I may get access to my mom's current XP computer, so I can run Morrowind on it! But I still like Oblivion better, w/ the DB & everything.

Also, speaking of Oblivion, here is my 1st quest mod and my my 1st house mod!

Oblivion definitely has a better stealth system... but choosing to be a thief in Oblivion is questionable. Oblivion has nothing of value to steal lol. You could break into a store to steal pitchforks and yarn I suppose (Or various other items worth 0 gold)... or stealing that iron longsword from the smithy is pretty pointless when you can join the Fighter's guild and take all of theirs :)

Morrowind's stealth system was not as advanced but there was always something worth trying to swipe off a counter or steal from somebody's person :)

I do like your point that Oblivion doesn't feel like another world though. Those were the words I was looking for for that game. The generic medieval world just doesn't feel like an Elder Scrolls game. As I said before though, Oblivion is an okay game I guess.

Why can't you run it on your regular computer?

It's still more fun sneaking around in peoples houses, it just feels more realistic (I think. I've never actually broke into someones house at night to steal their valuables), especially since they actually go to bed in this game. It's more about roleplaying than anything, I made an Argonian character that lived in the well outside of that Mages Guild just to see where the story would take him, so I'm a big fan of roleplaying characters rather than being "the very best that no one ever was."

Oblivion feels to me more like what I've imagined parts of Northern Europe and Russia to look like, lots of snow and forests. Morrowind reminded me of nothing in this world, which was a good thing. Still fun, and Shivering Isles fixed the problems slightly, though a lot of it was just Morrowind with new graphics.

There's nothing wrong with liking IV better. Your question was asking if anybody else liked the Elder Scrolls. Realistically The mechanics and graphics of IV were better than III. III was an old game as well so there could definitely be an argument that IV is more attractive to play... but it still should be taken into account that III was out a while back so certain things were obviously worse. I only had III on Xbox so the character models were hideous and certain factors like the random hitting sword strikes felt like very old mechanics... but it's an old game... it's to be expected. I like III better, but IV was still good in it's own right.

I'm replying to Avarice... I just don't want to quote that whole post. I agree... the stealth system was much better in Oblivion. I did like the ability to sneak around in a more realistic world. There are better classes than picking thief though. If you just prefer stealth and not stealing... a thief isn't the best class. You may prefer a witch hunter or night blade... since they combine stealth and combat with a bit of magic. I always picked custom classes which incorporated stealth, magic, alchemy for poison and the bow when I played, but the thief class was just bad because it focused on stealing and there was nothing to steal.

In Morrowind it made sense to pick thief as a class since there was a point to the word :)

Well, yes, there were better options. I actually made a thief/archer so my thief wasn't helpless in a fight. I still think stealing things in itself is more fun, usually I would take my stuff and dump it in my hideout (e.g. the sewers) instead of selling it though because it was either not valuable or I couldn't be bothered going to the few people who would buy it. I can't believe they made it impossible to sell stolen goods to shopkeepers, how do they know they're stolen? Argh.

I'm surprised that you prefer Morrowind though if you only have it on the Xbox. Next step, buy it for PC. Whatever you do, that is one of the best gaming decisions possible. Mods make Morrowind one of the best games ever, it's impossible to describe how much better the game is with them. And there are mods which can make it look just as good as Oblivion. I had to order my own copy from the US as they weren't selling the Game of the Year edition here.

I prolly can, but there are just some utilities that can run better on the xp & I don't want both on my puter.

Morrowind and Oblivion are like your children. You know you shouldn't have a favourite, but you do.

Major Oblivion fan. Have had some fantastic playthrough, and I am returning to it now for another kick at the can.

I've only played IV and was most recently obsessed with it. I haven't really given much notice to the main quest storyline though; I get killed easily on the Oblivion plane.... so I focus on the thieves guild, mages guild, dark brotherhood, fighters guild, etc quests.

I like to play as a Dunmer battlemage.
