Finally, just a small nitpick. mori_pastel said that Borderlands was made by the same company as Bioshock, which is false. Borderlands was developed by Gearbox Software, Bioshock by Irrational Games. Borderlands is a huge bunch of fun though, so don't discard it for that.

Ack, you're right! They're both published by 2K, which is why I got confused. I'm always mixing up developers and publishers. @_@ My bad. I'm still going to consider it the real spiritual sequel to Bioshock, though. It just feels so similar while at the same time fixing the main faults I found in Bioshock.
Also, to add to the list, I've been playing Dragon Age recently. Tons of fun (if you don't mind the battle system, which I can see being a turn-off for some) and an interesting story to boot! Morrigan disapproves of everything I do. : ( Why can't she just like me?
But if you hate the whole fantasy setting thing, maybe try Mass Effect? I don't think it's been suggested yet. It's made by the same people as Dragon Age (I double-checked this time! XD) and has the same basic "feel" to it, but it's in a sci-fi setting instead. I didn't get into it much though because the battle system murdered me. I just can't do that whole "sit behind the chest-high wall and wait for the enemy to poke their heads out" thing. I like to run in, guns blazing! Which gets me killed very fast in Mass Effect.
