I dislike how being unable to attend regularly for raids due to real life commitments means you're going to be continually passed over for loot and raiding spots.

I agree. I've never played an MMO and I'd love to play Star Wars TOR, but odds are I'd have to join a group if I wanted to complete some of the better quests. I wish groups weren't necessary and I could pretend it was a giant single player game. :?

I've been a long time MMO player. I started with browser based games, played Medievia (a MUD) for a bit, then later moved onto games like Everquest and FFX1. I currently play WoW.

My least favorite thing about MMO's has usually been the other players. It's annoying when you need to get a whole group of people cooperating and they are all some combination of 1) incompetent 2) know-it-all's or 3) stubborn. I did a little bit of raiding, but found that it just frustrated me too much. It didn't matter if I was healing, tanking, or dps'ing. Oh, and guild drama... I really don't understand why people feel the need to argue so much. Most of the time the solutions are simple and can be resolved by just staying calm. I'm glad that the guild I'm in right now is mostly a raiding guild. They are quiet and stick to themselves. It's not so social, but hey, that also means less drama. (And guild perks)

My favorite parts probably ARE the grinds. I love starting new characters and leveling them. I also enjoy goofing off to a fault, so I'll happily level professions and make stuff for the entertainment factor. Since WoW created achievements, I've also enjoyed trying for some of the whackier ones on the lists. It's fun to me. :D My more recent in-game obsession has been with fishing. But I'm not hardcore like some of the people I know. I've never had anywhere close to the best gear and I don't think that'll ever be my goal. If I can be a decent player, though, and have fun in the process, that's what matters to me!

I've only played WOW. The thing I hate the most is the game forces you to take proffessions to keep up money wise. I want to run around, quest, kill monsters, level up. I don't want to spend all my time picking herbs and making potions.

My least favorite thing in an MMO? The devs designing the game as a cash cow rather than something they can take pride in (and make lots of money).

The industry today has turned gaming into a factory process.. cloning the same concept over and over with the same gameplay and same mechanics over and over but with new graphics.

Gone are the days of true innovation and art form that EQ was.. or Dark Age of Camelot. Star Wars Galaxies it can be said, marked the death knell of MMO's when Sony introduced the NGE update and turned the game into a clone of KOTOR console game.

From that year onward there have been no innovative concepts, no new ways of playing an MMO. The only notable exceptions were EVE Online and Battleground Europe but those too are now falling to the 'second wave' of vapid commercialization the gaming industry is sinking into.

The korean-style free to play & minitransaction wave is giving the final death blow to MMO's all over. EVE is rewriting itself into that garbage and BGE has begun to fragment its gameplay integrity to cater to the short-attention span crowd in hopes of making a quick short term buck despite knowing for certain their games will DIE in less than a year or two after doing so.

like conquer turned into, it was free to play and still is but you can't get anywhere in the game without paying into it. most of the people there spend 1.000s of dollars to get dragonballs on average, they are called bulkers, and i'm not just saying this to say it i saw someone elses post about it. seeker an archer who i knew from way back said that you need to pump about 3,000 dollars into the game to be decently geared. another one came on and said that 3,000 dollars is like a baseline average.

when i went back into it for kicks there was no new people everyone was second reborn [extremely powerful character type] the game is only surviving on the people playing now who bulk like crazy.

don't believe me http://bbs.co.91.com/forumdisplay.php?f=91 these are just the volcano servers alone, i'm sure you will find one or two posts in a topic page that have something to do with bulking or fighting.

The stress. The people.
Some have nice character creation and gameplay and story and all, but I wish they were single-player...the other players make it stressful.
I do play mmo:s sometimes, though, for the aforementioned reasons. But I really prefer playing alone.
...and then there's of course that they usually have monthly fees, which sucks.

People. The ones you like never stick around and the ones you don't are always there.

Next to that though is the end game grinds. In order to be competitive you would have to give up every spare second of your free time. I don't exactly spend the weekend bar hopping, but I can't bring myself to play the same game all day every day either. Or commit to three hours of solid play a day and try to rearrange the rest of my life around that so that I can raid. It's just not realistic, even for someone like me.

After crappy people, I'm stuck between either gold sellers that ruin the economy or micropayments. I hate being nickel and dimed for everything just to play the game comfortably. And yes, I would rather pay a straight monthly fee and get everything, but those days are gone, sadly.

 I'd usualy say lag, but then you have those who lead other people on like secret little fakes, try to get you to buddy up with them, and when you do they turn *180, leaveing you to feel like a butt hole. :|

I hate grouping with random people cause you never know who is gonna be the troll. That's another reason why I quit playing Toontown online was because sometimes in raids (CEO, CJ, CFO, VP battles) there's always someone that will get on another person for not having a specific attack. another thing to is how people behave. That's the main reason why my mom kept me from upgrading WoW to premium. Grrr... Trolls ruin everything!
