I fully believe you can learn from video games......they help me with reaction speed and hand-eye coordination.....also currently playing L.A. Noire and learning about facial cues/responses......

I do not like war in the real world... it is horrorifiying.

Games like Rome Total War inspired me to learn more about Roman military history.

when i had my main park in rollercoaster tycoon razor rocks, i learned how to build nearly any rollorcoaster type and get a good rating, i've since lost that knowledge.

xenosaga taught me strength of character just from the character allen alone. it took a while before i learned good strategy in rpgs which ment my first playthrough of xenosaga 3 was hell on earth, my last playthrough i slowed down and planned every move out monitering the turns each combantent got and it was much easier to beat the bosses even my whole team got hit with a nasty attack i had a plan to get them going again, before that i would panic and end up dying as a result.

i even went into omega id battle with the wrong equips and beat him hands down, i wish you could fight some of the bosses again, as long as they were scaled to my team's level, because most would get slaughtered now.

playing games in general helps with my creativity as a whole, from character designs, to cityscapes and more.

but yeah if you never learn anything from the first few battles in a game you will never be able to beat the game. fighting games help me develop combat scenes for my story in my head. and i also design my characters in soul caliber 4's character creator which helps me to decide what i want them to look like and what fits them the best.

most of what i learn goes to my story but i wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm having so much difficulty discerning when people are being honest or not, which I am certain has nothing to do with the actors expressions.

I too have learned a great deal from games, including the coordination and reaction speed you mention. Gaming has also helped improve my typing skills, my social skills and my ability to lead others. If only "Raid Leader of an MMO guild" was a valid addition to my CV.

And let us not forget the plethora of facts and figures to be garnered from playing games. Red Baron taught me more about WWI than any teacher has ever managed to instil in me about any historic subject or period; countless football management, strategy and RPG's have taught me about resource management and tactics; a whole range of titles have helped develop my comprehension skills, my morailty and my judgement.

In fact, the list goes on and on, and will continue to do so!

VIVA VIDEO GAMES!

I learned not to fear failure by playing video games, but I couldn't transfer this skill outside of playing video games.

The only reason I can touch type is because of Guild Wars and League of Legends, and Kerbal Space Program holds a special place in my heart simply because of how incredibly enlightening it was to observe and interact with the mechanics of velocity, acceleration, orbits and trajectories in real-time.

Earthbound taught me that if aliens ever invaded I could just bludgeon them with a yoyo.
