As another couple of non-FF recommendations, I'd definitely recommend anyone to play Persona 3 and Skies of Arcadia, some great diverse stuff from the Final Fantasy series whilst being awesome. C'mon, Skies of Arcadia has sky pirates - how can it NOT be great?
Although it always frustrated me that XI and XIV were online titles, as so many spin off final fantasy titles weren't given numbers in the series, I dislike the fact that the games weren't called "Final Fantasy Online" and FFIV being "Final Fantasy O: <enter some generic subname here>" or something to that extent. I have to say it ruins the experience of being able to complete 'every final fantasy'. Although this comes from the person who's not completed a single Final Fantasy game
