Normally I'm a PVP healer or DPS, but I'm bored with both right now while I'm waiting for new content to be released. When I have the time, energy and my friends are online I'm planning on trying PVP DPS.

It depends a lot on the game architecture and what the game itself has to offer.

In actual combat I've generally stayed away from purely fighting roles if its a game that's designed to where you're carrying and supporting a whole team of different professions. In that case I prefer to have good crowd control skills, have self-healing skills readily available so I'm one less slot taking up the healer's queue, and generally its trying to orchestrate my characters around the enemy's MVP's first. Also, if I can find a class with a familiar or companion in that case just to have an extra body in the game to further spread agro that's also a plus.

If its a game where you can play most of it lone-wolf, again, really depends on how powerful magic is, how good armor is, how much damage you can get out of a sword, a bow; I really like to try and find the point where efficienty and style are mutually satisfying. In a game where you can make archery work, I'll do it for a while till I get bored. In a game where being an assasin actually means something other than undersized warrior - I'll have fun with that for a while. If the game gives a lot of accomodation and support to a dual wielder, I'll have fun with that. If mage skills can be intensely gratifying - I'll go there as well. The only thing I will say; my characters generally tend away from being full-on mages; I'm not adverse to using magic ibut I prefer to stack it to the physical or use it from a pragmatic standpoint of reinforcing or aiding physical attacks, drawing on etherial weaponry, etc..

That said though I still haven't played any games where I was playing with all kinds of other people online and to where crafting items could become a core competancy or where I could get out far enough ahead to specialize but, if I could find an online MMO like that and it had either a really low monthly rate or none (optimally) I'm sure I'd have a blast with it.

I guess its really tough to categorize; vaguely but most accurately put I tend to scoute the game to see what angle seems like it would be most 'me' and from there I do my research and try to get a sense of where and how far I can take it.

I have always played a healer. I tried being a meat shield, I tried hitting things with massive swords, but in the end I always found myself wanting to heal myself and usually forgetting to do what I was assigned to do, so I just stick to healing. I guess I like to be in control of other peoples lives :P

I tend to be a battlemage. It's nice being able to do up-close combat while having elemental spells at use whenever useful. Heavy weapons with a ranged weapon is preferred when given the choice, with spells used alongside them.

I used to be into healing classes only. Then I expanded into any kind of caster, and I'm just now getting comfortable with melee. I'm just not very good at melee combat.

Well, I just got into Wakfu this year as my first MMORPG. So don't know what is general and such. However, I like the healing class and being able to make stuff for other people.

I usually play a dps with a hybrid class. I've been known to tank as well.

I've done everything, but I prefer support/tank roles much more as they usually easier to play and I always get something like "oh my god how did we live through that good healer/tank" and I love a well-earned compliment.

I've topped the DPS charts too but theres always that one guy or two who knows every trick in the book winning over me and I hate that.

Every MMO I've played, I start with a healer, get bored, and end up on a DPS type spec. I'll still play an alt healer character now and then, though, until I get bored again. :) I also have always started on a PvE server, then moved to a PvP server. I should really just always start on PvP servers from now on.. I will!

I also enjoy stealther classes, both because I can easily explore zones/skip agg and so I can sneak up on people and stab them a bunch of times :) A good ambush on a low defense yet high DPS/heals target can make a big difference.

As healer I tend to feel I'm not really in control, that the people actually choosing targets and zapping them are, and that I'm at the mercy of these other peoples' strategies, whether they want to try and rush in to a huge group or stick together (or keep breaking LOS :P), etc.

That said, a good healer can make a huge difference, particularly in PVP, which is what I mostly enjoy in MMOs, although the more detailed quests (missions) of Star Wars: The Old Republic have kept me engrossed since the game came out.

Right now I'm enjoying the commando trooper on SWTOR, mostly DPS but with a little healing if necessary. I'm still enjoying SWTOR so I have a feeling I'll play every class to some degree, perhaps even all of them to 50.. When I find an MMO I like, I tend to spend a lot of time playing it, until I feel I've exhausted everything, and then I rarely or never play again (DAOC, WoW [it took 2 weeks :)], RIFT).

Happy specs to you all

I like healers with a lot of CC, so if someone wants to jump you, it's easy to get rid of him, or even kill him if you play smart and don't let him touch you. I tried using a tank too, they're pretty fun, especially in PvE, when you get this sense of responsability, and feel like a boss when you survive something that would two-hit anyone else.

Yeah, I've been playing a tank lately and enjoying it.. In both PvE and PvP, it's fun to stand there and take a massive pounding and live on.

I think that as with the rest of my life, I am always looking for new things and once I feel I've fully explored or mastered a particular role I tend to want to try another one. SWTOR is unique among MMOGs (as far as I know) in that it has deep questlines akin to a single player game, and even has 8 of them total, plus more if you think playing a different spec would mix it up enough to be worth the time..

Have tried most (all?) classes and have decided I favour ranged or healing, so hunters and priests. I do have a druid on WoW that is fun taking into Stormwind and ambushing the players in there. PvP is my favourite thing.
