I'm an aspiring independent game developer, been going to a group that has really experienced people in it.

I really hate this sentiment that games were ever better than they are now. Yes, there are blockbuster vapid titles but you nostalgia rose-eyed bungalows fail to realize that those games always existed. They were always bad. Older games, and I mean the oldest type, were far more complex and insanely hard to learn but had a huge payoff because of the work involved. Strange thing is, those games still exist and you aren't playing them.

I wonder why? Because you are too busy playing the new, fun games that are designed to be pretty movies. I don't think the 'gaming industry' needs to change, its doing what its always done, grow. There will always be room for innovation, but never at the top. No ones going to sink millions in something new unless they think it can make money. Look at Guild Wars 2.

I don't think any of you even like games anymore. You want games to be everything to you but they are just mere entertainment. I used to be the same, so I know. If you don't like shooters, you don't have to play them. There are plenty of games out there for all types of gamers that you seem to have just ignored to favor your negative viewpoint.

Only difference with older games is there's been enough time for everyone to forget the crap.

Amen to that!

I play mostly the SEGA stuff these days as to me that is interesting, and usually not mentioned by anyone these days due to their recent rep but I have found some great games under them with the likes of Resonance of Fate, Valkyria Chronicles, Yakuza and I even liked the shooter Binary Domain!

I am not into Call of Duty or the like but I think they are necessary in the industry just as much as the niche games of the old and new!
