The psp is a great system for fans of jrpgs, and Japanese games in general, particularly those that aren't mainstream. For the more mainstream gamer, particularly those who stick to Western titles, or who's interest in Japanese games for the system are more or less limited to games with a Square Enix label, and/or fighting games like Tekken: Dark Resurrection, I doubt it would be as great a fit. Sure, it's kind of neat that there's not much difference between a ps2 God of War game, and the ones released on the psp, so there's that. But, the action or platforming type gamer might be more interested in what consoles have to offer, or, as the case is now, what consoles had to offer back when the system was at its height.

I only got mine about a year and three months ago actually. I always kind of considered it, but never got around to it, due to being happy with my ds, and then, my lite, until its hinge cracked(and my ds backlog was put on hold until I finally get my hands on a 3ds). When the psp God of War bundle came out, I figured it was then or never. The downside to waiting, and getting a slick red and black psp, is that I missed out on a lot of great games over the years. The upside is that its library has been reasonably cheap, with a great selection of $10 titles, and a lot of its existing library has been released on psn. I need to pick up another pro-duo though. Games take up a lot of space. I also tend to use my psp to play ps1 classics, to save space on my 80G ps3. Some games, like Parasite Eve, surprisingly feel like they were made to be played on the psp, even though they were obviously made with a dualshock 1 controller in mind. It's also great that controls on the psp can be fully customized to my liking.

I'm personally sad that Gamecube was considered such a horrible system in its time. I think it's wonderful, and while I liked my PS2 (and remember playing some Xbox), I just think everybody puts it (and the Wii) down because it's different then the other two. More relaxed, for the most part. But different doesn't mean bad, and I think people just don't get that.
What I'm trying to say is that I don't really get console bias either, there are great aspects and flaws to each system :)

I don't remember or I never knew that the Gamecube was considered horrible. It had plenty of games I enjoyed, Resident Evil remake, Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Brothers Melee, just to name a few.
I loved it as well, and didn't know about it's "rep" until recently. I still play Gamecube games all the time, I love the controller and so many games that I can ignore the (oddly endearing) older graphics

Fanboys just make me laugh. I find it hilarious when some young whippersnapper dares to try and tell me something about gaming (from their narrow perspective). New ideas I am always open to, and someone's opinion is also welcome if they care to explain what is behind their thoughts. But ignorant rantings which only serve to self justify ones choice of electronic box are more than a little bit sad, and I usually get the urge to go "Well, back in the day, we had Pong. A bit later, Space Invaders...".

Glad there's a bit of PSP love here. I never understood the criticism of that console and its library of games.
I got a white import from Play Asia just as the PSP launched in the UK and spent almost all of Christmas day playing Ridge Racer. Nothing new or innovative with Ridge Racer I suppose, but it was a technical showcase for the PSP. It looked and sounded amazing and impressed everyone I showed it to. Standouts for me were Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins, MGS Peace Walker, Metal Gear Acid 2, Exit and Lumines. Honourable mentions have to go to GTA Libery City's ad-hoc multiplayer and Killzone Liberation. The one game Guerilla got right!

I'm not against the PSP, I just like the DS line more. Personal preference is reasonable, hatred towards other systems isn't XD

I'm not loyal to any console -- I go wherever the games I want to play are. 8)

Easy. Sunk-cost fallacy. Once you have made a decision, you have a strong motivation to try to justify your decision as being the best one.

You know who doesn't care about console wars? People who own all the consoles.

I'll be the first person to openly admit I have a bias for a console. I love playing the PS3...it does every genre best outside of Real-time Strategies (which are best on PC)

It should be about the best system specs because that's the max potential a console will have. The XBOX 360 has significantly less power than the PS3 and charges for server usage, while the Wii is just a souped-up Wii with the motion controls gimmick.

The game selection is the best on PS3 because it's potential has attracted a wide range of developers from big name companies like Ubisoft to developers of games like Flower, Fl0w or Journey. LittleBigPlanet Karting and the Super Smash Brosesque project will finish all the games I would've played on the WIi and Hydrophobia was ported over to PS3, ridding my need for that.

We should also hold bias for the controller styles we like. There really is no better one for everyone, buit I love the set up for PS3s and find the Wii/XBOX 360 layout annoying. Controllers are always overpriced like the accessories are though.

There's also the motion controls war, which PS3 does by far the best. The Move is used by surgeons (and deserves way more games used for it) and the Kinect is decent, but the Wii's system is extremely glitchy and touchy, especially when you need careful motion such as that one surgeon game series...it is a good idea marred by truly awful controls. Hopefully it will come to PS3 as well.

I see your points and agree to most of them, but a console isn't great on power alone, it is what you do with the console that makes the game shine on them.

The PS3 for me has it's good points as bad, as does the consoles you mentioned.

For me at least, XBLA is more diverse in terms of Downloadable Games compared to the PS3 (although the PSN selection is also great), and the Wii has the best "retro" store out of the lot of them! It's sad that Sony haven't encouraged SEGA to release their retro line up onto their store in the same way as Nintendo have (the SEGA Vintage Collection was a mockery to the company UNTIL they started getting their act together and asked M2 to emulate their games rather then Backbone), so I hope Sony or Microsoft obtain SEGA's Saturn Collection to compete into that niche market.

I am not too fussed about controllers, although I agree the Wiimote can be irritating (but it's not rage worthy).

The xbox 360 may not have the best graphics, or the most diverse library of games, but MS has done some things that worked. They definitely put a lot more time, effort and money into advertising their product, and the 360 has two of the more popular shooter franchises under their umbrella, which is the most popular genre these days for some reason. They've cashed in on the mainstream, and for one reason or another more companies have published games on xbl, which also makes MS's console great for people who enjoy downloadable games. While the 360 isn't my favorite console, MS obviously made some good choices with it, at least in terms of making it appeal to people in NA. I'll stick to my ps3 and its disc based exclusives, but I have to give credit where it's due.

All systems have their various pluses, but I look for the best accessories, best overall console abilities (PS3 came with a blu-ray player, so they LOST money initially), and best game library.

As for the XBOX 360 having all the popular shooters, their other games still suck, and the Wii's top rated game is a damned golf game. That's just pathetic.

I don't understand it either, but then again, the last console I bought was a PS2. I mostly play stuff on the PC nowadays. :)

games sucking can be personal taste so they have nothing to do what console works, i know of a couple exclusives that would make me prefer the 360.
thenthere is the kinect, in itself it has revolutionized medical technology, gaming, industry and all the other fields where the kinect has been hacked (or the hacker edition used)

as for the wii, ever played it with your friends at a party? for a third of the price of the other consoles mind you.

to say one is best only shows ones personal prefference, nothing about their actual value.
no console will beat a pc in power, they are already more than 2 generations of hardware behind.

The PS3 and Wii have a lot more great exclusive games than the Xbox360. Most of the good games for Xbox are also on one or both of the other consoles.

The word "Xbox" is pretty funny sounding because it's two syllables with the X sound at the front and back of it. Say it ten times really fast. :lmao:

I own a lot of consoles, including the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii. I think they each have something likable about them.

For example, the Wii's library is full of many casual games that are easy enough for even a toddler to navigate. It's kind of childish and fun, but also offers other games to suit different people. I'd consider it to be mostly casual. I think they last pretty long as well, because I still have my original Wii that my mom went out and bought six years ago. The exclusives (such as Super Mario Brothers) are also great to play.

The Xbox 360 is kind of individualistic in my opinion. It also has a vast game library, mostly hardcore but several family-friendly games thrown in. I think adding on the Kinect was good, because that's what finally convinced my mother to buy one (as I was still saving up for my new PS3 after my first one stopped working). I don't know much about any exclusives it has to offer, though. I'd consider it kind of fragile as well, because my sister dropped it once and we had to replace a few parts. I still like it very much.

The PS3 is a lot like the Xbox 360, except it has a few of my favorite games that are exclusive to PlayStation. I had the first "fat" one that came out, and it was a bit disorganized. I had a lot of trouble finding the right place to get software updates going. But what I did like about it was that you could be on it for hours and it didn't overheat too easily. I got mine to last a few years, but I finally got the dreaded "yellow light of death." So I saved up and bought the slimmer model. It has huge differences, but mostly good. The navigation I think is a lot cleaner, and it runs a little more smoothly. I have to be careful about how long I leave it on, because it overheated faster than my last one. But anyways, great console with lots of fun exclusives.

I try my best to remain unbiased, and this is the result. Like what you will, but this is my opinion.
