I'm pretty sure it was Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, which I have. Then again, I play emulators a lot, so don't quote me on that.

Though there was also Sonic Jam for the Sega Saturn. Maybe you're thinking of that one? That one I know for sure had the lock-on option for all 3 games (Not just S3&K.)

......why did they make playing Sonic so freaking boring, though? His little flame shields and crap don't even begin to compare to being able to fly or climb walls and glide. The only time it was any fun was when you had a second player to control Tails.

I generally prefer Sonic's simple fast-paced jumping. Playing as Knuckles is a nice change of pace, but I think that the game is more well-suited to Sonic's abilities.

Also, Sonic has the exact speed as Knuckles and Tails. Super Sonic has crazy acceleration, though.

Nope, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is one of the only collections where you can't lock on with both games. It's kind of silly how they didn't let you play the lock on versions of the games, though it doesn't really bother me too much because I already have Sonic Mega Collection and the Megadrive cartridges of the games.

If you really like old-school Sonic, then I recommend trying out Sonic CD HD, available on PSN and 360 - it was completely remade from scratch, features a choice of Jap and US soundtracks, and, if you beat the game, you can play through as Tails!

On the topic of Sonic & Knuckles, one of the best Sonic experiences EVER is starting at Lava Reef Zone 1 (such great music!), going through the battle-laden Lava Reef Zone 2, the second boss theme playing as you see the ruins of the Death Egg, going through Hidden Palace, and then culminating with the awesome music and experience of fighting alongside Knuckles in Sky Sanctuary Zone! <3
