Scariest thing ever, nothing I've ever played since then has ever compared to it imo.

I didn't think it was very scary at all...with everyone saying how scary it was, I was expecting it to be like the zombie/ghost levels in the first Thief.

It also didn't help that I had to start the entire level over two or three times, because I would get stuck in the past or future without certain pieces of loot and it wouldn't let me go back to get them =| I ended up hating that stage quite a bit.

How come nobody besides me mentioned "Dante's Inferno" yet? A game that takes place in Hell must be pretty scary.

Possibly the original Silent Hill or the 2nd
Alien Vs. Predator also had a lot of suspense about it when playing as a Marine

I'm too afraid to play the games that I think are horrifying, but I love to watch them. Not sure why it works that way. Maybe it's more like a movie? I like movies. Well, I like games too... Hmmm...

Yeah, I'm the same way. No problem watcing most unless they are particularly creepy or strange. Also helps if there's some kind of funny commentary to go with it, like this:

That said, they've also done one video on this game called Siren: Blood Curse and I couldn't make it all the way through. Probably the scariest game I've seen.

As for what I've played, I'm not sure I've really played much of anything that can be considered horror with Slender being the one exception. Maybe Shadows of the Damned could count, but it's more funny than scary. Going solo in Minecraft kinda creeps me out but it's hardly horror. Games like Metroid Prime 2 or Half-Life 2 have some scary stuff, I guess.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines the Ocean hotel and Dr Groat's mansion missions still scare me.

Yeah, I'd forgotten about the mansion. That certainly had its moments, as the recordings became more and more clinical, and insane...

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've never played it, so that's why I didn't mention it ;)

I didn't mention "Dante's Inferno" because the only thing it has to do with the first part of Dante Alghieri's Divine Comedy is its title. It's not scary to go to Hell when you're carrying a weapon capable of flaying demons.

I suppose SCP Containment breach is a honorable mention for this as well, it's a free indie horror game based off the SCP project, here's the link if anyone's interested.

http://www.scpcbgame.com/

haven't given out a link here before, so I don't know if I got do the link thing in brackets or not.

I'm going to hand in a vote for Amnesia as well. I still haven't finished the game because it scares the bejeebers outta me 8O... And I usually laugh my way through horror titles...

Elvira for the Amiga used to scare so much when i was little. It has some very graphic scenes with cut open necks, eyes taken out... hell your character gets his head chopped off in one of the scenes. 8O

Cry of Fear. Six minutes into the game gets me every time. There were plenty of other jump scares too and some graphic scenes. The monsters look like something from Silent Hill but they're way scarier.
