Not quite, but miles wiser than buying a Nintendo system at launch.

In my opinion Nintendo is the only safe bet of the three console manufacturers anymore. I know that it will eventually get a number of games I like from their franchises, the hardware will be reliable, and the company will still be in the games business in 5 years. Nintendo isn't going anywhere, as a company they are over 100 years old and have been making video game consoles longer than Sony and Microsoft combined. They are a company that currently only operates in the gaming industry, whereas Sony and Microsoft have a large number of other divisions and could choose to back off from gaming consoles and still be in business if they had a console launch flop on them. Nintendo would be more likely to stick it out and improve their lineup rather than give up on the hardware.

I believe that you should wait a year or two for the price to go down and for most of the bugs to be worked out.

I am waiting until it has enough games for me to justify its cost. I am also waiting for less rumors and more real info. (Which while being a BS answer is pretty much how it goes for everyone, right?) If Dark Souls 2 was PS4 and not PS3 I would buy it day one no matter what. I bought my PS3 for Demon's Souls and don't regret it. Souls games are a definite system seller for me.

Nintendo is playing it too safe in my personal opinion. Reggie is a silent cow whose appearance makes me think he should have just stayed with Pizza Hut and faded into obscurity, Iwata is a developer at heart and shouldn't be trying to lead the company, Miyamoto either needs to retire or rescue his franchises from including but not limited to: The mismanagement that happened in Skyward Sword, the stagnation of NSMB, and other issues that have arisen since he's been kicked upstairs to General Manager.

The entire Miiverse concept reeks of a pet project and still isn't a valid substitute for a robust online system, the Virtual Console relaunch is a joke and about as insulting a celebration of 30 years of Famicom as Skyward Sword was to 25 years of Zelda, they've been working on the Wii-U/tablet controller concept since before the iPad and yet they've got just how many titles to show for it? With how much of a massive drought to show for it? Western Developers are laughing at the Wii-U openly, and looking under the hood and seeing that the power draw requirement is in the lightbulb range with the absolute possible maximum being 60 watts, along with their choice to willingly deploy a dead architecture, an entirely unnecessary second SKU, and a finish that manages to make the Wii look polished.

Is it too much to ask for a nice brushed finish instead of a shiny glossy finish that just makes it look like a glorified and expensive toy? Why can't they make a system that looked as awesome as the GBA SP and GCN Platinum finishes?

Just to be clear, I am indeed angry with Nintendo, because I've seen what they have the potential to do, and their failures are unamusing, as are the broken promises.

Its like I'm Giovanni and they're the bumbling trio.

There hasn't been a system worth buying at launch since the Dreamcast.

If I was to answer that question... maybe not for now. Esp. that there's no backwards compatibility for ps1 to ps3 on it, maybe no. A year later? maybe, esp. if Japan got a Gundam game for it.

I regret not getting the kids a WiiU at launch because I needed to replace their broken Wii anyway. The new red Wii mini was $100 vs. $300, but now the kids want some of the new games like Lego City Underground and other titles coming out that are U-ONLY. :(

That $100 feels wasted.

It's called "Lego City Undercover" actually. I'm currently playing through it, and it's the best Lego themed game by far. The gameplay is very similar to GTA except with Lego characters and vehicles, etc.

Considering all the issues the Xbox 360 and PS3 have had I am waiting a good while before I decide whether to buy a PS4 or not. My friend's PS3 just died the other day.

Wait awhile. Let us compare with past experiences of the PS3.

1. the ps3 at launch had 1/3 the memory capacity of one from a year ago.
2. buttons more convenient on the later model than original.
3. ps3 at launch was about 3 times heavier than one from a year ago.
4. Color quality significantly improved years after the ps3 launched.

I would wait about a year.

The 3rd-generation PS3 is also flimsier and uglier than the elegant 2nd-gen. If they keep that mindset & design for the PS4 release, it'll be poor build quality.

Sony Consoles tend to have hardware problem like disk read errors, Microsoft had problems too but they seemed to have fixed them, Nintendo has been good except for the DS and the cheap hinges they use.

buying any console at launch, unless it has a strong launch title, is not wise.

it almost always pays to wait a year.

They've had a reputation of having bad launch games. Wait a little while for the game library to stack up and read reviews of the console itself before you go buying it.
They have yes. But Sony has learned from their mistakes. At launch and soon after (I assume a period of 6 months) it's going to see Killzone : Shadowfall (I loved Killzone 2 & 3 but SF looks more of a CoD/Crysis rip-off so I'm a bit weary), Driveclub (not into realistic racing games myself, but it appeals to many people), Watch Dogs (simply looks awesome), CoD : Ghosts (not such a duty fan myself but it sells crazy), Infamous : Second Son.
And others yet to be announced I think

Anyway, personally I'm thinking of waiting about a year, January 2015 to buy it. More games, more stable system and hopefully a pricedrop. I just hope I can show the patience. I have a really hard time with new tech.

I'm excited for the touchpad, it opens up handy possibilities. Been thinking about a game like Skyrim where you have different outfits for different fights/occasions. Assigning certain outfits/equipment to self made sweeping gestures as a quick swap. Seems awesome.

I would wait a year or two for the price of the PS4 to drop and it certainly pays off to purchase it once the price of the PS4 drops. Compact console models, more memory, more library of games, and improved hardware and software are the way to go when buying a PS4 at a later date.

But it's going to be sooo hard passing by the store, realizing I have enough money to buy one, and not do it.
