I do hope EA goes bankrupt, soon. But from the way their shares are going, I suspect they will.
Their shares have actually skyrocketed 20%+ the last few days. Still, it's nothing compared to how much they were worth before the economical crisis.

They still seem to be very far off from a bankruptcy > Link <

Nice post by the way, that was very informative! :thumright:

Does anyone really pay Sim City anymore?

I got tired of it when I realized I couldn't build a realistic city.

The only reason I don't keep playing the awesome SimCity 3000 is fast computers vs. old software. I'm building a "classic games" machine right now... P4 with a Voodoo3 video card for some classic Glide 3D and either Win98 or XP. :D

I want to play my favorite Simcity but I've been nervous about hooking up my old SNES. The one for the Super Nintendo was my favorite one. I also liked SimAnt and SimEarth.

I also have a Simcity I liked for the DS.

EA is a financial colossus that uses their massive funding to buy out and ruin their competition. They're doing their level best to destroy the gaming industry and leave us with nothing but barely functioning, substandard games.

And it's a damned shame, because they made some awesome games in the past, with a few gems even today. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is one of my favorite racing games ever, purely because of how much fun it is. I loved Underground 2 and Most Wanted as well. The Run is good, but not as good. Battlefield 3 is great fun as well.

Unfortunately, I can no longer justify buying any of their games. I want the gaming industry to continue to pump out fun, working games. EA stands in direct opposition to that.

It's what they get for releasing games that really aren't finished yet.

I think a broader statement could be made out of this sentiment to let me just say a little something:

EVERY TRIPLE A PUBLISHER NEEDS TO LEARN TO STOP RUSHING THEIR GAMES, WE WANT THEM TO BE GOOD AND TO GET OUR MONEY'S WORTH AND NOT BE SHAFTED BY THEIR STUPIDITY!! !

When I first heard about the new SimCity, I was interested and was close to putting down $60 to buy it, but the always-on restriction made me change that decision very quickly. Since then, I've gotten back into SimCity 4. I made a few tweaks to make it run at 1920x1080 and it works just fine.

Prime example, that what happens to their games when they aren't tested and finalized to make sure it works properly. It's going to be complete PR disaster on EA.

I pre-order that game in fact that was the first game i ever pre-ordered, i bought "special edition" because i love SimCity i was very HORNY for that game :D

But when i get game i was very disappointed by this game, i mean the game is really cool, maybe the map was little to small.
But the server connectivity was nightmare, and i lost one of my best cities because of server problems. So i stepped play.

Is there any hope that it will be fixed? I'd like to play this game someday.

You mean if it ever requires not to be online? If so, don't count on it anytime soon.

EA wrote:
"Instead of DRM, Gibeau explained, the requirement came about because Maxis' original vision for this SimCity title was that of a "multiplayer, connected, collaborative SimCity experience where your city and my city and others' were [working together]." As an MMO-like game, SimCity had to be built as an online-only title.

"If you play an MMO, you don't demand an offline mode, you just don't. And in fact, SimCity started out and felt like an MMO more than anything else and it plays like an MMO," said Gibeau.

Gibeau did acknowledge EA's poor messaging about the MMO aspects of SimCity, and said he was "disappointed" at the crippling launch-week server issues."

They see Simcity as an MMO.

C&C: Renegade and Total Annihilation, some of my favorite PC games from my childhood, will never see true sequels...

; __________ ;

P.S.: Darkspore is a little known but actually mostly entertaining Diablo-clone made by Maxis, interesting character customization, servers may no longer be running but anyone that's interested should look it up.

Technically Supreme Commander by gas powered games is the modern sequel. It was designed and developed by Chris Taylor

Though the kick starter project known as Planetary Annihilation is also aiming to be a true sequel to the game. Not sure if the original people from Cavedog are involved though

Oh baby! Now THAT gets me excited! Total Annihilation was such an amazing game (with an amazing soundtrack to boot!) SupCom 1 was great... SupCom 2 stinks!
