Is my 6.Nf3 an innovation? I have only seen Ne2 in the Vienna or at least in this particular line.

The Vienna was popular around 1900 and faded out of fashion some time after. I don't think theory developed much into modern times but a few decent players use it fairly often. In particular the Chinese seem to have taken interest and I've noticed a few of their top young players using it with success.

As far as I'm aware the main early attraction was to delay the King's Gambit by controlling d5, avoiding the 1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5 line, with f4 coming on the 3rd move instead. With 6.Nf3 you're not really playing a Vienna anymore. It's turned into a kind of Four Knights game but also not of theoretical importance. Basically, it seems to me that we're just playing chess now.

I don't normally play 1...e5 and would likely not have chosen 2...Nc6 in a game, but I thought I'd play along and see what type of game you wanted. Mostly, whether or not you'd go for the critical 3.f4 positions.

Unless I'm mistaken Nge2 is mainly associated with the kingside fianchetto systems of the Vienna.

Thanks for writing out all the moves. My computer has a virus and I cannot cut and paste with this tablet.

The game is getting interesting!. My pawn structure will be very bad (doubled pawns on the C file). However, I will have the initiative. After 8...NxB 9. PxN and after you develop a piece, and after I o-o-o * you will have 2 pieces developed and I will have 4. An unbalanced position (where we have different advantages) makes for an interesting game!
* My rook will be developed to d1.

No problem. I'm playing blindfold and typing all of the moves each time I post helps to keep a firm visual in the day or more between visits to the forum.
Also I can check back and see all of the moves in a single place for the current position instead of browsing through multiple posts. (:

I will save my comments for the post-mortem unless you would like them now. Your assessment is interesting but I disagree a little with your use of the word initiative.
