How would you actually react if your mum unexpectedly buys you an X-Box One as a surprise birthday present?

This could cause eternal emotional scars between both of you.

I'm nearly 30. My mum doesn't buy me gifts now. lol
If I was a fanboi I guess I'd be disappointed but hey the XB1 has Dead Rising 3 to look forward to at least and some other games..just not as many as I'd like.

Well, thanks to to the recent changes I've heard Microsoft making to it, I'd be willing to purchase one.

I got that with a ps3.

My parents started telling me I should be more grateful/whatever when I just said I was fine with the ps2.

I dont care. Why should I care for the price of a product from a company, I dont wanna support, if I dont must?

Its not really about wether you care.

Its about the fact that the ps3 started being sold at $600 and was sold by that price for months, price was then halved due to low sales

XBOXOne was announced at the same price as the ps3 and people started going up in arms about how its an outrageous price.

MS has lowered the price before its release and people are still up in arms about how stupid MS was for putting the $600 when sony did the same thing several ages ago

In the US, Xbox One has never been priced at $600. When MS announced the price at E3, they announced it at $499.

In Europe it was announced at 600 by amazon and its the same number for all countries, its what apple does too(rather silly imo but meh)

Even with the recent changes it's still an outrageous piece of trash if you ask me.

Lol :-)

You can also change the dash and put whatever you want on there + boot linux if you fancy it. Twice the fun :)

What HW is the original xbox running? Just for curiosities sake.

It's a (slightly modified) intel coppermine 777Mhz (I think) with 64MB SDRAM ram. Nvidia Graphics (maybe geforce II-III).

If you're interested:

The soft modding option leaves open changing the dash and booting linux, hardware modding it will leave you with a linux box.

The soft modding way involves a tricky technique with unlocking the hard disk (ndure toolkit being the easier way).

I think to do the hardware method it's best to do soft method first, then you can do a very simple solder job to connect two points to get hardware modded (some version of xbox slightly different).. once done you can install cromwell (bootloader) on the tsop.

Only issue I have with the xbox now is that I couldn't get a later version of the linux kernel for it and was stuck on 2.6.16 kernel.

Can also be modded to have 128MB of ram (and maybe some other stuff IDK) if you're really good at the soldering business.

You can put in a traditional USB 1.1 port too. Or adapt a controller to have a USB plug (the controller is then usable on any linux machine too).

Also you can play dvd's without the decoder front controller plugin on a modded xbox.

There are some xbox forums about the specifics of it.

Xbox 360 can be modded too (much harder.. I haven't done it) and has pretty good hardware for it's time (guess you probably know that already though from the context of your question). You wont be able to do anything on xbox live though I believe.
