I guess, but it's certainly worth considering that the majority of console game developers / designers are also (at least to an extent) game replicators ; for exactly the reason which you mentioned... a lot of people are perfectly happy to pay a lot of money for derivative gun-based titles. And there's nothing wrong with that.

This does mean however, that if an aspiring computer game developer / designer tries to break into the market with their generic gun-game idea.... they will have a staggering quantity of competition... even if they are fully qualified, and even if they are already established as a professional.

It's also worth noting that even if the game can be developed to completion, Derivative Gun Game X will need to compete against much more popular and well-established franchises from the same genre.... a genre where even the most popular games tend to drop in retail price at a frantic rate.
