Paper Mario series

I still think rogueport beats out any of them in terms of character but the way you put it makes it seem like the other levels were nothing. They weren't nothing.
You're right, it was a misleading thing to say. I meant it literally, as in "Rogueport is over halfway up the list when it comes to having character". I do think that every area in TTYD has a lot of character. As I said, it's one of my absolute favourite games. To make up for my misleading comment, I will now say something nice about every chapter.
Chapter 1: This chapter is visually generic, but the music in Petal Meadows is so awesome that it gets a neat sense of place just from the music alone.
Chapter 2: This chapter is visually bizarre. Everything is black-and-white, except the things which aren't. It's actually a bit mentally taxing to look at some of the scenery in this chapter, which I guess is why it's called the "Boggly Woods". The music is also really bizarre, and doesn't have any "hooks". It's just pure ambiance.
Chapter 3: This chapter. Man, this freaking chapter. It actually succeeds in making you forget about the important epic story of the game, since you get so involved in trying to win fame and fortune. Which makes it all the more powerful when it is revealed that fame and fortune aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Chapter 4: The only place in the game (I'm pretty sure) that has 3D objects - the pigs. Why are they 3D? I have no idea, but it somehow makes everything quite unsettling. The backgrounds are like comic book art. I like the idea of demons who rely on knowing your name. It's an old creepy idea that doesn't get used enough.
Chapter 5: This chapter is all building up to that moment. That moment when you are in command of a ghost ship and burst through the wall. It is so great. Best moment of the game.
Chapter 6: My favourite chapter. Nobody could see this chapter coming. It gives a whole new meaning to "it's about the journey, not the destination". This entire chapter is about messing around with your expectations.
Chapter 7: The first part of this chapter is an elaborate joke by the game designers. I am willing to forgive them. Maybe. The second part of this chapter is DISCO RAVE FIGHTING PUZZLE PARTY TIME.
Chapter 8: Takes "final dungeon" to such an extreme that it's actually kind of funny. I love the long, long, staircases and endless ominous hallways.
