I've always played it the real way but never really got to play it that often due to a critical shortage of friends at school and the fact that the university wargaming society was full of arses (the role-playing society was a much better crowd). This didn't stop me becoming an encyclopaedic source of knowledge about the 40k background though. Vassal sounds like something I should try. *downloads*

Which reminds me: has anyone here played the 40k RPG? If we could arrange an online RPG session based on those rules, that would be pretty awesome.

The Necrons were quite successful, the Monolith is really a force to be reckoned with! Next time I'll have to spice up my army with flyers and death lasers

LWW's Daemon Prince should really stop smashing tanks with it's face:

You have a daemon weapon the size of a tank, no need to prove your manhood by headbutting something until it explodes :)

Space Marines Vs. the Dark Eldar Sky Fleet : battle report.

Dark Eldar :

HQ -
Archon with a blaster

Troops -

10 Kabalites (1 with splinter cannon)
flying in a Raider fitted with splinter racks and torment grenades

9 Kabalites (1 with splinter cannon)
flying in a Raider fitted with splinter racks and torment grenades
Joined by the Archon.

Elite unit -
5 x Trueborns (2 with splinter cannons, 2 with dark lances) flying in a Venom Skimmer which is fitted with 2 x splinter cannons

All vehicles have flickerfield and night shields.

Launching their attack in the dead of night, the fleet of Dark Eldar slid from the skies with the grace of an eagle.
Unfortunately for them the Space Marines were lying in wait for them, having camped out all night with senses alert.
Unable to launch a barrage into the inky blackness, the Thunderfire Cannon crewman cursed his impotence as the missile launchers screamed around him, peppering the Dark Eldar Venom transport vehicle with an explosive bombardment of shells.

Before the crew even knew what was happening or could move to react, their vehicle was smashed into pieces... throwing out shrapnel which violently killed all of the crew of the Venom except one.
Cowering in the wreckage, the sole Trueborn remaining set his teeth and was initially prepared to stand his ground.
But as the giant flying deathships around him began to retreat, Ga'RRuth the Trueborn thought better of it and took his chance to disappear like a shadow back into the depths of night, while he still had the ability to do so.
Damn those Space Marines.... nobody had ever got the jump on their fleet at night before. Somebody must have tipped them off. Ga'RRuth spat on the ground.... damn, with Dark Eldar society being as it was it could have been any number of traiterous back-stabbing mercenaries who had sold them out for a bit of extra money or power in return ; for they had surely been turncoated, to have been shot down like that in spite of their exceptional night vision and stealth. There was no other rational explanation for it.

 thanks !

(O.O) I had a game against myself last night using two identical armies like that last one.

Oh my God... it was the worst game *ever*.

I set up the armies cunningly, then army 2 (who were scheduled to move second) won the initiative and proceeded to blast the s**t out of two of the enemy vehicles (which exploded, killing 80-90% of the crew) and stunned the crew of a third vehicle.

Army 1 retaliated by exploding the enemy ravager, before the second turn kicked in and army 2 smashed the remaining enemy vehicles with their dark lance shots. Explosions all round.

The entire game lasted less than 20 minutes from start to finish !

;-) I guess that's what will happen when pitting a bunch of light-armoured open topped vehicles against AP 2 Str8 weaponry and get a bunch of lucky dice rolls, though.
