I've never met one, myself. As the terms "geek" and "nerd" become more mainstream, though, people start to read them as meaning something a lot different than the last generation of geeks and nerds. What I've seen isn't willfully misleading, but thinking that something like being fussy about grammar makes you a geek in the same way that guy with all the Star Trek memorabilia is a geek or a nerd in the same way that guy with a hard-on for math is a nerd.

I know a girl who wears non-prescription glasses because they make her look smarter. She told me that was the only reason for them. It seems a bit ridiculous to me, since I've been stuck with corrective lenses since I was 10. Why would you wear them if you didn't need them?!

She has this shirt that says "GEEK" with a big pi symbol formed out of the numbers of pi. I thought it was cool, but she didn't get it! If someone has to explain your geeky shirt to you, that makes you a fake...

my sister used to have (real) big nerd glasses with clear frames in 7th grade.
she blogs about video games all the time on Tumble but the only one i've really seen her play is Team Fortress 2.

♫Nerd girl I don't deserve you, I don't get the references that you refer to. I love your lipsmackers and your lack of perfume. I'd love to get you home by curfew.♫

Wow. I'm just happy to live in an age where being nerdy is considered desirable enough to be faked.
That was certainly not my experience when I was growing up in the 80s-90s, and was an actual nerd girl.
I guess I was born before my time. Maybe that's why my husband is so much younger than me. 8O

This. A fraud is one who assumes an identity for recognition/popularity/profit which they hold of higher value than the identity itself. You will notice many of these on twitch.tv, guy and girl alike.
