Actually Sony promised those features would be at launch and still haven't delivered them.
@Misery
I have 12 or so retail games on Wii U (bought many at discount)
There is a good selection of non M rated games and M rated non shooters.
Yeah, I know, but I've pretty much hit the end of what I'd actually have even a slight interest in. Dont like most of Nintendo's own stuff (particularly Zelda), generally playing only the Mario games, and that's pretty much it, wont touch party games with a 20000000 foot pole, wont touch RPGs with an even longer pole, as I haaaaaaate cutscenes and really dont like story elements in games (find most of them to be badly written or just bloody stupid... I just read books instead) and absolutely refuse to do any grinding ever.... and so on. The sorts of games I like are pretty much only found on PC. Nintendo manages to actually have the largest amount of variety, not getting stuck in the hyper-narrow rut of FPS games that the other two do, but it's still way too narrow for me.
I like the Mario games, and bought the console for Smash and Monster Hunter, and.... there really isnt anything else I've found.
Of course, bloody Gamestop doesnt help with the browsing, since I walk in there, see the Wii U section, which basically consists of #%(&-ing Skylanders and Disney Infinity, two brands I'd reeeaaallllyyyyy like to see gone for good at this point. But even looking around online I never really find anything.
Then get:
NES Remix 1&2 (eShop or retail)
Mario Kart 8
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (Wii U)
Scribblenauts Unlimited (it has Nintendo stuff in it)
Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed (Wii U is the best console version)
Nintendoland if you don't already own it.
Art Academy: Sketch pad (eShop art app)
Pokemon Rumble U (it's a brawler not an RPG, you don't need any of the NFC Pokemon figurines. eShop title))
Sonic Lost Worlds (Wii U it's a good game after all the patches, it also had a Yoshi Island and Zelda free DLC levels)
Super Mario 3D World
Lego city undercover (Wii U, it's original open world GTA style game. though the cutscenes aren't skippable)
Shovel Knight (A good indie platformer on the eShop)
The Wonderful 101 (A good action game)
Pikmin 3
Pushmo World (A great entry to the Pushmo puzzle series)
....
Best Buy is currently running a B1G1 40% off on all Nintendo published games this week for both Wii U and 3DS.
They also have eShop cards on sale too
There are plenty of good eShop games including retro titles, get them all before the end of the year and you will get your 10% back in reward certificated (every $50 = $5 cert).
Nah, most of those either hold no appeal, or hold no reason. Though NES Remix is a maybe, and I already have 3D World and Mario Kart, though it'll take me awhile to get around to jumping into Kart.
Sonic I dont care about, as I've considered the series to be one of the worst for a LONG time now... I can simply find similar games elsewhere instead that I (probably) wont hate, since I dont care about that franchise. Scribblenauts and Shovel Knight can be found on Steam (as can a bunch of the other things on the eShop, as most of the Wii U versions are actually ports) so I'll just buy them there if I want them. Tekken is.... "feh", pretty much sums it up. Fighting games are what I'm best at, but I'm picky about them, and Tekken moves way too slowly for me (dont really care for Street Fighter for the same reason. That and Tekken aren't actually bad, mind you, not at all, I just get bored with it too fast. I tend to stick with Arc's games instead). Pikmin is a no, as is the Lego one and Rumble, already seen all of those. Pokemon actually I dont mind, as the main series goes. Normally I dont like RPGs, but there's the occaisional exception to every rule, and that's one of them (particularly with a lack of much int he way of talky bits, and the multiplayer that really varies things up quite nicely), so I do have the 3DS version. Nintendo Land I have a copy of that came from who knows where. Came with the system, probably. I havent gotten to it yet. I will though buy Monster Hunter 4, if it comes out sometime this millennium. 3 Ultimate I have. Been a fan of that series for a long time. Was one of the things that pushed me to get the console.
And the retro games.... ahhhh. The one thing that the Wii had going for it for me was the huge selection of those.... even for consoles like the Turbografx. The Wii U's selection is bloody awful, consisting of only 3 consoles, and almost entirely just games from Nintendo themselves and Capcom.... and I already own actual copies of pretty much all of them (all of which work fine). That part honestly was a pretty big disappointment. Though I'll buy a few of them anyway. At least though I can get the other-console ones from the original Wii store, even if I dont like dealing with that side of the device. But yeah, I have most of them. I've alot of retro game stuff... it's all over my room. Heck, there's an ancient Atari 7800 unit that sits right next to the keyboard here, and it gets frequent use. So I probably will use the original-Wii store for those consoles I dont own.
All in all that store and the current eShop will probably be where most purchases come from. Pushmo I do intend to get. It's mostly that there'll be a general lack of retail titles, and I'll still be buying WAY more PC games than anything else.
The nice thing though is that what I DO have are all very high-quality games that will hold my attention for quite awhile. And the console doesnt irritate the hell outta me like the Wii did. The thing actually came out pretty good. As did the controller. Though I wish it's battery life was longer. But it's a good gizmo nonetheless.

from what I understand they already added them. one can put mp3 on a usb and plug and play. I personally don't care and only use my console to play games. I have a iod for music, a bluray player for movies and netflix, cable box for tv, and pc for internet. all a game console has to do for me is play games. really glad sony went with concentrating on games and gaming instead of trying to be a stupid all and one multimedia shitbox
They haven't added them all yet.
The point is, Sony marketed the PS4 with all those features that didn't make the launch.
Sony is planning to add more multimedia features to regain their foot hold as the multimedia company.
@Misery
Seriously Sonic Lost Worlds (Wii U) is well worth the price. It is speedy platforming goodness.
The Yoshi Island DLC level is amazing one of the best levels in the whole game (and it is free).
Monster Hunter 4 is slated for Q1 2015 in the West, probably alongside the New 3DS system (The game gets a performance boost and uses the second stick).
The Majora's Mask remake also drops in Q1 2015.
Pokemon ORAS are surprisingly good Pokemon games even for being a remake (they are better than XY)
Mario Golf:WT (3DS) is a fun game too as is the expansion pack DLC.
Tomodachi life will keep you busy alongside Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
The reason why the Wii U VC is lacking is due to these reasons:
1) Konami bought Hudson a few years ago acquiring TG and TG-16 rights with it.
2)Konami has no intent to support the Wii U VC
3) Sega has announced they have no plans currently to support the Wii U VC
4) Square is not supporting it either
5) Other 3rd parties aren't interested
6) 3rd parties have demanded the right to price their retro titles as they see fit and they don't like having to meet Nintendo's QA standards. This is why the Wii U VC is lacking
6a) Sony and Microsoft allow them to price their retro games at any price and do not require them to be fully vetted.
This is why FFVII is $15.99 on PS4 despite the glitches present in the PS3 version.
3rd parties claimed their games were underpriced on the Wii's VC.
P.S. Scribblenauts Unlimited (Wii U) is the original game with more content, while the Steam version has content cut and is the port.

Ugh, yes, the VC really sucks this time around. For both devices.
Doesnt help that with the 3DS, well.... I'll say, I'm never buying another VC game on there. EVER. I dunno what royal dimwit came up with the emulation software, but there's a fun little function that games as a whole have had in them since BLOODY FOREVER, which is the ability to reassign buttons. The face button placement on that thing is kinda bad to start with (a huge part of why I have JUST Tomadochi Life, Animal Crossing as retail purchases, as controls cant frustrate in those. Well, I also have Smash, but with the Wii U version out I've little use for the 3DS one now), and the setup for the virtual stuff.... uuuuuugh. I go to buy Super Mario Land, excited for that, hadnt played it in who knows how many years.... and IMMEDIATELY find it totally unplayable because of the positions of the B and A buttons. Cant easily hold down B to run while then jumping because the placement is bloody awful and the stupid buttons are tiny. Ugh. So yeah... not downloading anything else onto that blasted gizmo. Chances are, not really buying anything else for it either; I've not heard of anything interesting on it. I only have one because I was at an anime con, carrying too much money around in the vendor hall, and I ran out of possible things to spend it on, and there the damn thing was, sitting there all shiny.... ugh. I really must stop doing that. Mario 3D Land is tempting, but I *know* the controls will just tick me off way too much, as even the dpad and stick are kinda crap. So I didnt buy it.
....there, venting over with. Probably I"ll just stick to using actual emulators.... it's just annoying to have to use either the PC or the huge blocky laptop for those sometimes. Particularly for an old gameboy game, it's not quite the same that way.
As it is, for Monster Hunter, as much as I love the series, I aint gonna be getting the 3DS version... it'll just anger me way too much. I'll be waiting for the inevitable Wii U version. Control issues are pretty much *the* thing in gaming that irritates me the most, and I can think of a whole bunch of games that I just outright got rid of after finding too many unfixable problems with controls. It's often my ONLY reason for getting rid of something.
....and those reasons for the VC issues do make sense, sad as they are. Ugh. I remember mostly only the 360 having retro games... and for reasons I cant seem to remember, I rarely bought any. Either the price musta been really off, or there was something else wrong with them as a whole. I'm guessing these companies overall think that they should be able to price things higher than the norm on Nintendo's device? Like 10 for an NES game if the rest are all at 5, or some damn stupid idea like that.
@Misery
I love my 3DS, it's my most played system (out of Wii U , 3DS and PC)
There is nothing wrong with the button assignment in most games.
Customizable controls are up to the developer.
Many of Nintendo's own 3DS games have customizable controls.
With that all said, I was able to beat Zelda II (NES) with no real issue on 3DS.
The current XL is the best system, though I'll probably switch to regular New 3DS since they upped the screen size from the original 3DS.
Also don't expect a Monster Hunter 4U on Wii U...
Thanks for reminding me to complete the 3DS version of Smash (I still play it along side Wii U version)

Yes, I looked up the MH4 on Wii U bit, aaaaaannnndd......
.....my already very deep hatred for Capcom has now multiplied. Just.... arrrrrgh. I seriously do not want to put up with the 3DS's accursed demon controls just to play that. The damn thing is irritating enough as it is. Hell, I found Smash nearly unplayable on it. I had to set the controls so that one of the face buttons was jump instead of the stick, as the stick seems phenomenally inaccurate. (again though, that could be the XL, which has a few other issues as well, such as sound...) Also had to switch dodge to a face button, because the godawful shape of the horrid thing (it's about as ergonomic as a brick) means I cant use the shoulder buttons without my arm flaring up for the bazillionth time. I played it sparingly until the Wii U version came, and now.... probably dont even need it anymore. Aside from the bit where Mewtwo's DLC comes for free if you have both, or at least that's what I heard, so I might want it for that. Maybe.
But yeah, the controls killed it for me. Granted, I'm kinda a perfectionist with fighting games; I tend to play at a *very* high level, and the controls need to be bloody PERFECT for a fighting game of any sort to function at that level of play.... not so much an issue for those playing the genre a bit more casually.
Ugh. I had originally pretty much replaced all handhelds with the iPad for gaming (and no, I dont mean casual games) and that's been great for the longest time, but then I give a handheld another try after years of that, and.... immediately it's annoying. Bah. Probably the iPad will stay as the main portable gaming gizmo for me for a long while yet. Particularly with 200 or so games that I've bought for it.
I might have a look at this new model 3DS though when that appears, as I understand that it rather fixes a number of problems that the previous versions have.

You can buy the circle pad pro for $20 from Nintendo.com
https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/p ... =prod30063
It adds a few shoulder buttons and second slider.
Usable with some games including Monster Hunter.
Monster Hunter only sold about ~300k+ in the West, which is why Capcom is waiting for Nintendo to help port and publish the Wii U version of 4U.
To quote Sakurai "SMASH BROS IS A PARTY GAME!"
I can play Smash bros near perfectly on 3DS by modifying the control settings (you can change controls in the setting menu on both versions)
Mewtwo and soundtrack is free to all who register both versions of the game by January 13th 2015 on Club Nintendo.
So you better sign up on club.nintendo.com and register both soon.
I do play better with the Wii U Pro controller and Wii U gamepad on Smash for Wii U.
---
I have no trouble playing most games on 3DS XL, except for that dreadful Kid Icarus: Uprising (I have big hands).
As for the New 3DS
It has:
1) SNES colored button
2) New home button
3) Start and select are moved to a better position
4) The volume controls are now on the top part
5) Greatly improved 3D effect
6) face tracking for the 3D effect
7) light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness depending on the light.
bigger battery
9) L2 and R2 are added
10) Second stick/c-stick/nub added
11) Changeable front and back face plates
12) Power button, stylus, and cart slot are now on the bottom of the bottom
13) Thinner
14) Lighter
15)SD Micro cards
16) SD Micro card slot is under the back cover
17)More RAM... This makes many games run better and allows you to easily switch out of games like Smash to the home screen like a normal game.
18)Faster processors... Better graphics, improvements for certain games
19) Better screens
20) Better WIFI
21) Faster eShop and downloads
22) WIFI transferring for all games and content when transferring to a new 3DS (though this may just be an OS feature).
23)Faster boot times for the OS
24)Better graphics for certain games
25)Some newer games have features unlocked when using New 3DS, Smash allows you to post to Miiverse, Majora's Mask has some, Monster Hunter 4 does as well.
26) Xenoblade Port is a launch game due to the bump in hardware.
27) Original New 3DS has a bigger screen
28) NFC is built in, no accessory required to use Amiibos with Smash 3DS on this system.
I plan to get a the regular model due to portability and new screen size.
I love my 3DS XL, but it isn't easy to carry around in pockets.
