Amiibo: More games, more content...
Rumor/leak.
Target will not stock Ike, Mega Man, Sonic and King Dedede in-store.
Most new characters will not be stocked in-store going foward.
Most characters will not be restocked, including Rosalina.
Target doesn't think most characters will sell enough to warrant in-store stocking and will sell them online.

Ugh, I'd almost forgotten about these accursed things, and then I got an ad e-mail from Nintendo about them. Feh. I should probably just set it so they stop sending me those.
I may or may not still buy Bowser maybe, but at this point I dont care enough to go to a store for it so it'll come down to wether or not I remember to just buy one online from who knows where later on. Other than that, interest is dead, same with everyone I know. They're just too irritating to get.

Just unsubscribe from them.
Though you will also end up opting out from the demo codes and promotions codes.
I have seen plenty of Bowsers and Luigi's.
Tomorrow I might go to the store for some groceries and see if Ike is in stock.

You seem rather angry about this Misery.
Me, I am collecting them, I have 14 currently: Mario, Peach, Rosalina, Samus, Captain Falcon, Toon Link, Link, Zelda, Sheik, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Pikachu, Lucario, and Sonic. I was just going to get Sheik and Lucario in the latest wave, but as I went to for my preorders last Thursday I checked Target and found myself compelled to get Rosalina, Toon Link, Mega Man and Sonic. I managed to stop myself from getting Dedede and Bowser at the same time.
From where I am it looked like EB Games already sold out of pre-orders of Lucina, but I did manage to order Robin and Charizard. Kind of wished that I managed to get Pit but I did not realise it would get sold out so quickly.
I have currently kept the plastic out of the boxes so each of them have a stand for them to stay on, just need a place to properly display them.

Nah, I'm automatically that way about most things; my default negativity towards everything is one of the reasons I use this name. I often try to explain this negativity to people so they dont take more meaning from it than there actually is. Friends and family fortunately put up with it pretty well.
Though I get more irritated than usual if there's something I want but cannot get at for whatever reason.
And the stores around here just make me MORE irritated, as they all kinda suck.
Also, it's winter, so I hate everything.
I wish I could buy that many.
Here in Brazil they are NOT priced as they should be (as collectible miniatures) and costs way too much. This will be even worse now that Nintendo officially left the country.
I will probably buy the main ones like Link, Zelda, Mario, Luigi, Bowser and maybe some others when I have the money but unfortunately they cost way too much to buy them all.

That's mainly due to Brazil's heavy taxes on foreign goods.

Nintendo's has released new Amiibo information via their financial report:
*They have admitted the demand for many Amiibos caught them by surprise
*Link is the most popular Amiibo everywhere but Australia
*Australia's favorite is Mario
*Amiibo cards will be launching soon, they will act the same as the figurines and be sold in packs
*Timed SNES and NES VC demos will be added to Amiibos by June.
*Marth-US, Captain Falcon-JPN, Ike-AU, Little Mac-EU (highest sell through by market)
*Limited Rare one run Amiibos are coming
*North America accounts for 63% of all Amiibo sales.
*5.7M have been sold as of today.
Nintendo's CEO has stated they will increase Amiibo production if retailers demand it.
Right now retailers aren't demanding an increase in production and orders.

Son of a.....I call shenanigans. more than half the Amiibo so far are practically rare one run figures ffs
the demo thing is lame too. "hey, that Mario Amiibo can unlock a timed demo of some Mario games from NES & SNES" *uses Mario Amiibo* 2 minutes later..."that's it?" It's as bad as those lame "Masterpieces" in Smash Bros Brawl and Wii U...

Agreed.
It's the sort of thing where I look at it, and think: What in the bloody hell would I even investigate them for, then? Let alone bother to look for them. Considering the bloody stupid way this has been handled so far, combined with the fact that I get irritated when companies do things like this, it's like Nintendo is saying to me, "please, dont buy Amiibos or other things from us. Steam, Sony, and Microsoft need your money so badly, be generous with them!"
Of course I say this while at the same time knowing that I'm likely buying Monster Hunter 4 within the next day or so. Provided the controls wont drive me up the wall; the 3DS isnt the most comfortable device I've ever used and that series tends to have quirky controls. But after that I'll give Steam money instead! ....except I do that regardless, so.... feh.

There isn't shenanigans here.
Nintendo cannot force retailers to take bigger Amiibo orders.
Right now most retailers in North America are reluctant to stock most Nintendo products due to 2DS, 3DS (regular size) and Wii U moving slowly. They are also bothered by the fact that lesser games not named Mario Kart, Mario Bros, and Smash Bros didn't sell at a high rate.
Retailers currently are skeptical on Amiibos in North America because they don't think the demand will last, thus they aren't willing to order enough and provide the shelf space.
So they are just ordering Mario, Link, Peach, Bowser etc... because they are the more popular characters.
Right now retailers are also very reluctant to stock any games that aren't the the big named IPs on any platform due to the fact there is no guarantee said game will sell well.
It literally costs retailers money when a product is on the shelves and not selling at a decent rate.
It also depends on your city/region what the stock allocation is by retailer.
Retailers determine the stock by store not Nintendo.
I found Wave 3 Amiibos with great ease at my local store.
Also EU and Japan have tons of Amiibos in stock thanks to retailers ordering tons of them.
If you have a problem finding Amiibos, it's either due to high demand and/or your local retailer not ordering enough.
No Nintendo isn't dumb or brazen enough to sell them online and risk being blacklisted by the retailers in North America.
----
As for the Masterpieces in Brawl and Smash 4, it boosted the sales of many of the VC games that had Masterpieces demos.
This is why Nintendo is expanding it.
They aren't made for you and me, but for those who aren't familiar with retro titles.

THAT, I think, is the part that gets me. Why? Because EVERYONE ELSE sells their products online these days. Wether they do it through their own site, or through someone else. It's EXPECTED now. This is the age of the bloody internet, after all. I know Nintendo is bloody strange, but still. This sort of thing is exactly why (well, okay, a small part of why) I dont like Nintendo as a whole. And no, I dont care about the logistical reasons in this case; dont list them at me. The very simple fact is, ANY other product I want, from anyone else, including both of Nintendo's most direct competitors, Sony and Microsoft, can be found online through a large variety of vendors, including direct purchases from those guys. This makes sense: These companies want to make sure that as many customers as conceivably possible are in a position to be able to get their products. That simple fact is what I'm basing this on; the logistical stuff means nothing to me in the face of that. Even worse is that even Nintendo also has their own online store, which to most people will just make this even more baffling (and again, throwing reasoning at this one wont do anything, because most dont A: know that stuff or B: care). People look at that and go, wait, why doesnt Nintendo just sell them from their own damn store like everyone else?
This one thing, just this ONE thing being somehow different, would cause WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY more people to be buying these in this country. How do I know this? Because of all of the people constantly yelling about how they WANT but cannot FIND or GET the damn things.... until they give up and lose interest (and Nintendo loses a sale that they could have gotten online), which is what has happened in the various areas I frequent (these things came to a screeching halt at all the major stores around here; they went from having none, to being always full but nobody buying them. And by "always full" I mean "they had link, Zelda, Luigi, and sometimes Kirby, and this filled up an entire block of shelves"). Oh, dont get me wrong. I know the things are still selling very nicely. But they COULD go from "selling really well in the US" to "selling ABSURDLY well in the US" if this were done right. If this were done right ONLINE. As the physical stores just arent cutting it here.
In very specific stores, sure, you can sometimes find them. This is not the case in nearly all areas though. Because of my general freedom to just do whatever in the heck I feel like, whenever I feel like, I tend to roam alot. I go to alot of stores out of boredom, or just to buy things (also out of boredom). The areas I frequent cover a large blob that encompasses a good chunk of northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin. This of course is when NOT actually fully travelling, as those are where 2 of the 3 houses are; "travelling" to me means any trip that involves a hotel. Either way though, I know of *alot* of stores of all chains, and can reach and go to way more than most people..... and not one of them, not ONE, has these things stocked in a way that wont irritate those looking for them. This means Walmarts, Gamestops, Meijer, Target.... the list goes on, theres a ton of different chains that exist around here. I've been to so many, and I go to them frequently (seriously, I get bored REALLY easily, and the car at least gets me out of my house). Hell, there's *nine* Gamestops just within 25 miles of the house I"m in right now (no, I dont know why. There's one infamous spot where there's one Gamestop.... and then another one across the street from it).... and I sure as heck dont limit myself to a mere 25 miles. And these arent exactly middle of nowhere areas that I search in, either. They range from small suburbs to "horrible crowded mess with huge shopping zones". And in all of these, nobody is going to find the damn things, because they simply are not there. Unless you want Zelda or Kirby. There sure is alot of Zelda and Kirby.
This is also the case with literally every other person I know, and I dont mean in my area. Most people I know are in other areas of the country, spread out pretty wide. Most of them, at this point, have a Wii U, and of COURSE they all have Smash (though it took some of them awhile to finally get the console and the game). So they want the bloody figures. Some of them are in major urban cities... some are in the middle of freaking nowhere. NONE of them can find these things. I'm the only one that managed to get one of the more "rare" ones via sheer luck early on. They at least havent given up on the search, as pretty much everyone I know tends to be the sort that is willing to just keep going, but they havent been successful. Nobody wants to just order from Ebay either, but I suspect that in the end, they will do so. I may do so as well, for Bowser at least, because I cant think of a logical reason to not do so.
If you yourself have found them easily... consider yourself lucky. Because it's just not the case in most areas. That's exactly why the scalpers on Ebay and a variety of other major sites are going nuts with these things, because they are fully aware of this fact. People want them, but cannot get them.... a big opportunity for cash for the scalper types. Scalpers cannot be successful unless demand is DRAMATICALLY higher than supply (and again, this includes online supply/demand nowadays); that's how scalping works.
......aaaaaaaaaaanyway, that's all I have to say on the subject currently, I've no particular interest in conversing about it beyond that, as again, I've mostly lost interest at this point. I just notice the damn things in all the retailers I go to, as I tend to notice things like that and am quite aware that friends of mine are still looking for the things, so I may as well have a look whenever I"m in a store. But yeah, just adding input randomly to the overall conversation here. Dont take my negative tone as having too much meaning.... I always sound like that. Actually I'm in a pretty good mood today. Nobody ever believes me when I say that.
@Misery
Actually Nintendo doesn't sell new physical items on their online store only in North America in order to keep their retail partners happy.
Nintendo does sell their products through online vendors in North America
You can buy their products from New Egg, Amazon (except for systems in the U.S. due to an on going feud), and other online retailers.
You can only buy parts and refurbs directly through Nintendo.
In Europe and in Asia you can buy most of their products from their online store in those regions.
Sony sells very limited amount of systems through Sony.com
Everything else gaming relating has to be bought at retailer (online or B&M) in North America.
Microsoft on the other hand pays good money to retailers to stock their gaming related goods, thus are able to do as they please.
Again Nintendo cannot force retailers to order more Amiibos and stock more in their stores!
Nintendo openly stated North American retailers are purposely ordering low quantities of non popular characters due to their fear of the non popular characters not selling).
------
Here's how retailers in North America work
A company produces X products for sale for retailers
Retailers assess the product to see if it will sell well and then decided to order Y amount (or none) for all their stores
Retailers then ship Z amount to their individual stores.
Store send the sales data back to corporate and corporate decides to reorder Y amount (if at all).
Reorders are dependent on whether or not corporate thinks the demand is worth it.
Company may have X amount still on hand or will have to produce enough to fill the new orders.
Analysts were sure in the beginning that Amiibos would fail to sell.
They are also sure it will be a failed venture.
FYI: you've been able to preorder Amiibos online from many sites including Amazon from the beginning

And they are wrong. A number of people may be sick of parts of Nintendo formulae not changing, but it still fills a very special charm.
