Yeah, it sounds to me like Graham telling the stories is just narration for the actual gameplay, which is a sort of "reimagining" of the original game (or games).

But I guess we'll find out when it's closer to release.

Seems to me, though, that Activision is just striking while the iron is hot...lots of other "fairy tale retellings" going on in Hollywood right now. Looks more like a Dragon's Lair clone than an actual adventure game, to me =(

I can see why people might think that it's a platformed rather than an adventure game from the trailer. However, if you read the previews given by video game journalists who have seen the beta, you'll see that it's pretty much a pure adventure game with no action sequences. Here's a quote from an article on it:

Quote:
As opposed to its predecessors’ traditional 2D point-and-click style, the new King’s Quest controls more like a third-person action/adventure – you can even nudge the movement control stick gently to sneak around traps or enemies. At its heart, though, it’s still very much a pure adventure game that relies on wits (and perhaps some trial and error) to solve fiendish puzzles. Objects in the game world are context sensitive, letting you know with an on-screen prompt whether they can be examined (from a first-person perspective, no less), picked up, or otherwise manipulated.

At the moment, I'm only disappointed that there isn't any mention of a Mac version.

I'm talking about the original Laserdisc game, not the platformer for the Game Boy. It's basically the grandfather of what they now call "quick time events".

Hmm I'm not sure. It looks rather complex and serious. The simplicity and silliness of KQ1-3 was what I loved about them, and other Sierra games of that generation. I never played beyond 3 but I imagine I would have liked them less as I did with Monkey Island when it became more complex with its graphics etc.

Me neither. I played 5 briefly, the voice acting was very cheesy @_@

One of these days I need to get back to them, now that I have most of the Serria boxed sets...

I don't remembers King's Quest too well, but Quest for Glory 4 is my all-time Sierra favourite! If you like Sierra games of that era it's definitely worth checking out.

Now this reminds me of the space quest games as well.

Well the first episode of the new King's Quest came out 3 weeks ago and it's entitled "A Knight to Remember". Apparently, this first chapter is a prequel to King's Quest 1 and tells the story of how Graham first became a knight and this most definitely looks like a point and click adventure game. Although it's the first episode, it's as long as a full length adventure game and I believe that each episode is a different self-contained game and story. Although this one is a prequel, I believe that the other ones will take place chronologically in-between the timelines of the earlier games. Here's the launch trailer of the first episode:

Also, here's a trailer for the complete collection, if you want to buy all 5 five episodes (plus they promise a bonus playable epilogue):
