I don't like REALLY old games...too simple, with no stories. I love plots and characters.

But they haven't made any really good games for a few years IMO...so many modern games are just crappy clones of each other. I'm so sick of fascist jingoistic military themed games, for one thing...I've ranted about the current state of the industry so many times lately that I don't want to get into the rest.

I myself am a sucker for classic gaming. :D I can't stand some of the newer games, they've focused way too much on graphics and not on actual gameplay. I just go out shoot things, flight, and kill people, not have to adjust cameras, and get lost on the levels.

Funny this thread came up cause i just found this just now. You can play actual NES games online, no downloads.

This website is too legit. Playing Paperboy online without a rom made me smile.

Is that Hang-On? I used to have Super Hang-On for Genesis. Dunno where it got off to though.

I love old games. Two of my favorite games are the NES versions of Bionic Commando and Rygar. I also feel that one of the absolute greatest two-player games is Demon Attack for Intellivision.

Yeah it's Hang-On it's one of the built in games. :)

Generally speaking, I prefer a Joystick. Nothing like yanking that stick and pressing the trigger. I got used to Sega Genesis, with the basic pad controls, but I play my friends' PlayStation, GameCube, etc. systems and HATE the controls. I also think the 3D graphics are vastly overrated in today's games. They always have hiccups too, which is annoying. My favorite games were EA Sports NHL Hockey '93 on Sega Genesis and Raiders of the Lost Ark on my old Atari 2600.

Ooooh! I spent many a late night as a teenager playing Tetris on my old GameBoy. I wasn't sleeping anyway, so it would not be uncommon to turn to the clock and realize it was after 3 AM and I'd been playing for 4+ hours. Just last week I was dusting off my GameBoy and thought about playing. I remembered my addiction and put it down.

I hate really old games like Pac Man, etc. They're way too simple (and hard) to interest me.

The ONLY think I dislike about current gaming is just that there aren't enough 2D games. I love 3D games also and there's tons of new gameplay that 3D opens up...but it doesn't replace 2D at all. 2D game types are still perfectly valid, and not replicated well into 3D.

So I really wish maybe at least 20-30% of games were still 2D.

Count me in on the classic game love. I really miss the classics. And I hate having to sit through the massive tutorials they put into games nowadays. If you need to learn how to play, there's a little thing called the instruction manual. Read it.

I completely 100% disagree. I don't want to have to study an Intricate instruction manual to play a game. I think basically any game should teach you how to play it in one form or another in the game.

Is the original Diablo considered a classic yet? I've been playing that one off an on for about 9/10 years. Well... since it came out.

Fallout is the greatest classic game of all time. Fallout 2 is all very well and good, but a little too bug-riddled. Every Fallout since that has been junk.

I like games for ye olde MSX computer (a well-known computer in Europe and Japan, I'm not sure whether it ever hit the American market though). My favorite MSX games are Metal Gear, F1 Spirit, Nemesis II, Treasure of Usas, The Goonies, and most of all: Penguin Adventure. 8)

I've played a single MSX game-Metal Gear (since it was available emulated on the Playstation 2). I thought it held up pretty well, and was better overall than the NES port (and a bit different). I didn't like Metal Gear 2 though (and ended up HATING Metal Gear Solid 3-my interest in the series went from high to virtually zero because of that game, though I liked the Metal Gear Acid games.

I never liked the Metal Gear sequels either. I tried Metal Gear 2 but thought it was boring. There's no floors or soils, you just seem to walk on a black gap, which makes it less realistic than the first Metal Gear in my opinion. And I didn't like the enemy radar where you see your enemies as little blips. What I liked about the first Metal Gear was not only the absorbing gameplay but also the storyline, with Big Boss initially assisting and guiding you through the radio but later defecting to the enemy and killing Schneider, and Diana who in the end alludes that she's in love with you, and Grey Fox, etc. etc. I still know the sequence in which you have to blow up Metal Gear with plastic explosives by heart...
