How addictive is WoW? Does it make people become lifeless zombies?

Step 1: Cancel your subscription to WoW.

Step 2: Refund WoW.

Step 3: Buy and subscribe to City of Heroes.

Believe me when I say this, CoH is much better than WoW for a number of reasons

1: The monthly fee of CoH is MUCH lower than WoW's monthly fee.

2: You actually get a reward for getting to the highest level on CoH.

3: CoH is a whole lot more fun than WoW.

Buy. Subscribe. Login. Play. You'll love it.

There's nothing to say you can't play WoW and go to school. Maybe you should find less time-consuming games to be addicted to though.

Best of luck to you. They don't call it World of WarCrack for nothing.

My brother knows people who have dropped out of college or come close due to text based games.
Good luck, and be careful. You're doing better than a lot of people.

I managed to quit by focusing on everything I disliked about the game...the flaws that have been there since it started up, how they focus on "balancing" by downgrading everyone, the insane and increasing number of uncontrolled gold sellers, and how if you play in the endgame all you do is spend week after week grinding away in some obscure instance for some stupid piece of equipment that you most likely will not get in the off chance it does happen to drop. Sorry, lots of rage there. What really killed WoW for me was being blamed for a raiding incident which didn't even involve me. After that, it was easy to leave it behind and never look back.

I think it is the more "social" aspects of WoW that are the most time consuming. Like being in a "raid guild", that wants you to raid with them all the time. I was never very good at the "social" aspect (i.e. being in guilds). I'd suggest just playing the game casually instead. No reason to quit a fun source of entertainment, unless you're bored with it or something better is going on.

I find that a lot of people who bash games like WoW spend an equal amount of time, or more, watching TV like zombies. I don't think TV is a "superior" form of entertainment.

You could try just playing the auction house-- that's what I've been doing lately. I will farm a bit but I'm not questing or doing any instances. But I have had periods where I was hopelessly addicted and obsessed. You can also go to wowdetox.com to read some of the scary stories. That site always helps me cut back.

Another thing I have heard is that playing on private servers, since you're not paying for it, is less addictive, since you no longer feel you "have" to play to get your money's worth. Some private servers have accelerated leveling. I've never played them though.

With college coming up I decided its time to quit World of Warcraft for awhile. I've been cutting back on game time ect. But I still find myself thinking of playing the game. Like what quest should I do when I get back, what gear should I get for my paladin ect. Having aspergers I know its probably that single minded obsession talking. I usually just switch Hobbies that has worked for me in the past, but this one is usually hard. Any one have any suggestions?

I used to play ton of hours in Fallout 2 but I got bored.

I used to play ton of hours in Runescape but I got bored.

I used to play WoW but for one month during trial period but I god bored.

Now I am playing lot of hour in Bots in a PvP Acclaim Multiplayer game. I cut back from Warrock but play more hours in Bots.

All I can say is that MMORG is becoming more and more of a pie in the sky. You work for all your effort for a lousy viritual items and what you get in return? No money but WoW to pay. Instead of WoW, you could have been learning dozen things that can improve your life but you have to be a king of your own room when there bunches of player that pwning you. No contest.

End your subscription and start playing short and timed game like Bots. I cut back from Warrock because there were cheater in the game. I hate cheater, I play the game hard and I expect my effort to be rewarded and not stolen by cheater.

I got addicted to Tibia (other MMORPG) when I was 16-17 years old. My sister was addicted too, and we passed some nights playing, without sleep.

My mom caught my sister playing at 4:00 am once, then she made me uninstall Tibia, and the game was forbbiden. I was so angry with my mom, I thought it was unfair I couldn't play Tibia.

I was trying to get a ghost credit card number in order to "pay" a premium account (some classmates did it and they told me how). Now, I can say "Thanks mom", because I really had a problem with Tibia.

I'm not trying to say MMORPGs are bad, they can be funny, but if you spend a lot of time or you're very close to comte a crime related with the game, I think is better to quit it.

I played WoW for close to three years and was "addicted" for about one year. By the time I cancelled my subscription I hated the game, so quitting wasn't hard. The only thing that kept me playing as long as I did was in-game friends begging me to join this raid or that.

If you're anything like me, quitting won't seem like an option until you're sick of the game, but that will happen eventually. Just give it time. Or if you want to hasten the process, be rude to everyone in-game and make lots of enemies, heh. Oh and once you quit, don't start playing another MMO...
