The Death of PC gaming? I don't think so.
Exactly. I just want to buy my game and play it right out of the box. When a console has done its time you just buy the next one, always having to empower your PC just to be not sure that it will be enough to run the game you like is just frustrating. There's this friend (maybe) of mine who is a big fan of PC gaming and always crticize consoles, but fact is I play my games with no flaws while he is constantly struggling with his games (and he his very tech savy...). As long as he is happy with that...I'd rather have fun without stress....
I don't know how it works if you use a pirated 360 game on your PC, but I guess you just can't access to Live that way.
If you put a pirate disc in the 360 instead you get banned, as they always know what's inside the console.
All this hype in E3 about the not-so-good future of pc games vs the bright future of consoles is all marketing lies , probably said by managers and developers who work in console gaming who are trying to market their console games by bad mounthing about PC gaming.
If it's true that PC gaming is dying then why most of the 'execlusive' consoles games were ported to PC soon later?
Mass effect was supposed to be Xbox360 only yet they ported it to PC like tities and so Gears of war and so GTA4 .... if the PC gaming market is that small like you are claiming then these games wouldn't go pc.
I explained in Toad's thread why the PC gaming , unlike all the hyped rumors, is going to grow.
The amount of $ generated is NOT a marketing lie, it's a FACT, the ONLY fact that matters. If they find a way to change the current trend ok, otherwise PC gaming will get smaller and smaller (unless some noble software houses decide to work just for the glory...).

There are very few developers who are still PC only. I can only think of Blizzard, Relic and some of the eastern European/Russian developers such as Crytek, CDProjekt.
id, Valve, Bioware, Bethesda, Epic, The Creative Assembly, Lionhead, Bohemia Interactive Studios, Remedy Entertainment, Infinity Ward are all doing console games and are making most of their money on the consoles. Epic made a lot of money from Gears of War but were very disappointed by the performance of Unreal Tournament 3 on PC.
Well I don't think the issue is whether PC gaming will ever be completely eliminated. There will always be games on PCs just so people can screw off at work or do something while they are waiting for a huge download. But I think we can pretty much agree that at this point PC gaming is 2nd place to consoles, and will probably be that way for at least a few years down the line.
Recheck the PC titles in the OP and you ll know how wrong you are.
don't get me wrong, I am not a PC fanatic, In fact I own a Xbox360 and I love it (and PSP and NDS)
But sorry consoles lovers, PC will never see victory coming from consoles when it comes to gaming nor wide range of features. Everything you can do on a console you can do on a PC. Only on a PC you can do over 3 times more. Those what you all call 'games' you play on consoles are actually made on a PC for your information. The graphics cards necessary to make those games are beyond anything you've seen. PC now has the Geforce 8800GTX. PS3 matches... what??? only 2 6800's??? Wow... that's old already. That's already 2 Geforce generations behind. We're on the 8th series of Geforce cards and already headed for the 9th with better DX10 support. PC games have HDR which is not seen on neither X360 nor PS3. Between X360 and PS3, PC wins. That's the end.
Most PS3 games are mediocre , really ..very disappointing except MGS4 and GTA4 and most good games on Xbox360 are going gold on the PC (except Lost Odyssey which is JRPG so it's normal not to see it coming on PC) with a better performence and graphic quality.
Only the Wii is special console that can't be really compared to a PC since it's too different.
As for the market size ....well the console gaming was always a bigger market since ...euh.. maybe since NES and SNES, most people are not tech savvy so they prefer consoles but the PC gaming market is not shrinking like you are claiming, it will grow ....it will grow thanks to better built-in GPUs (ie ATI buil-in) , as for the piracy I am sure that the next standard media format after few years will be the Blu-Ray and so the piracy will be greatly reduced (specially if companies master softwares such as DRMs or online checking..).

The graphics chip on the Xbox 360 is designed by ATI and is supposed to be almost DirectX 10 capable. The 360 is definitely capable of HDR and the graphics card is the equivalent of a Geforce
7900GT. The PS3 uses a Geforce 7800 as its "RSX".
I have a gaming PC myself with a Geforce 9600GT and a E8200 Core2Duo and I never play it anymore. I can buy some games on it and the 360 but I prefer the 360 because I know the games will work. I won't have to download new drivers, fiddle with graphics settings, download patches and I get Xbox Live and Achievements on the 360.
The average 360 cost abut $3-400 dollars and you could easily spend that on just a graphics card. I spent about $1,000 dollars to build my own gaming PC and I know the 360 is far better value.
Exactly. PC's will never die out as a platform because they're more useful than consoles.

i already explained it earlier, many headaches can be avoided if you actually know what your system can run. READ THE BACK OF THE BOX. PC games end up being far cheaper in the long rung than console games most of the time, not meaning price game-by-game, but in that you dont have to upgrade your PC all the time, but you end up having to upgrade your console more than once every 3 or 4 years, and upgrading a console is starting to get expensive. $400 for a used ps3? f**k that. $30 for a better graphics card? i can afford that. need a better power supply for the cheap graphics card? that may be a bit more expensive, but generally doesnt pass $100. its a far cry from $400 and around that price.
and about the marketting thing, yeah, so console games make more money. thats a fact. but what was meant by it being a marketting lie is saying that PCs as consoles are DYING. THIS is a lie, PC games are just as much alive as they have been for quite a while, maybe even more alive. i honestly dont touch my consoles unless im playing guitar hero with my little brother, or if im replying an old silent hill game or an old FF. im constantly either playing The Sims, FFXI, or even WoW (though i have a general dislike of it, i cant bring myself to stop paying for the damn account >_>;; ) and like i said in earlier posts, there are MANY very good PC-exclusive games (mostly MMOs) and what isnt PC-exclusive is generally better on the PC if it originated on the PC.
and PCs as a system in general will never die because you can use them for so much more than games, as we are demonstrating here on a forum

Yeah but the simple fact that a majority of the decent games for PC are ports should tell you about where the market really is.
Who cares if console games are made on PCs? That's like saying PCs are better because you can edit movies on em. Yeah PCs can do more, people don't use their consoles for work or email (much). And why should I give a damn about what graphics cards made the game? Why do you think so few people have upgraded from DVD to Blu-ray? There comes a point of diminishing returns, where the average consumer just doesn't see the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit. It just doesn't matter.

actually its quite hard to spend $400 on a graphics card unless you're trying to buy the top-of-line latest thing out there as soon as it comes out. a graphics card thats good enough for most things is generally not even $60, depending on where you shop.

lol indeed indeed
i just dont like all this talk of any type of console "dying"
nothing will ever die so long as theres some dork out there playing it
atari's are still around XD granted theres no new games for em, theyre not dead yet (though by marketting standards they are)
edit: besides, PCs will always have their MMOs, as its almost unheardof for an MMO to be ported to a console (except for FFXI, but thats cause SE was in console gaming before they were in PC gameing)
edit #2 cause i cant shut up : also, MMOs are almost piracy proof. the only loss to a company through the pirating of an MMO is the original disc price. the person still has to pay a monthly subscription to the company to be able to play it. hence why i think subscription MMOs are going to start getting even more popular and numerous in the near future.

It's people like these that I find most annoying. I paid a heavy price to be a gamer in the early 90s in the form of being constantly bullied in school because I was one of those "video game nerds" instead of wanting to go out and play football with people or something. All those people that bullied me then are now gaming, except they don't want to learn the technology like I did to become a gamer, so they use pre-packaged systems that are all uniform so they don't have to bother with getting into the technology. And, as usual, they use their overwhelming numbers to get their way, in this case to force true gamers off their own market. At least in the 90s I was able to retreat back to my room and game to escape the world. Now even that avenue looks like it's going to be closed...
I'm not saying that you fall under that category, though... I just dont like what that category is doing to us...
Read the OP again dude ....you are not reading the OP.
Diablo 3 , Spore, Sims, starcraft 2, Dragon Age , The Witcher , Space siege, Bionic commando , Red Alert 3 , Rage, Doom 4 , Wolfestien ,Fallout 3, Solar Empire ....are console-ported games??! LOOooooOOL No not the majority of them.
Most development companies are making games on Consoles and on PC, so when they make a hit game on 1 console it would be so normal to port it to PC , porting doesn't cost much and its return is huge compared to its investment cost.
That's why mediocre consoles games (who are so many) don't generally come on PC.
Porting decent console games to PC doesn't mean PC gaming is dying ....in the contrast , it means that PC gaming is still a strong market (not strong as consoles but strong!)
And do you think that big GPU producers such as Nvidia and AMD/ATI would allow the death of PC gaming??? Selling GPU to Consoles manufacturers once in 3-4 years isn't much profitable like frequently selling new GPUs each month. The GPU producers have an indirect strong authority on development companies , there's a mutual benefit to feed each others:
If PC gaming die==> GPU companies like ATI and Nvidia die ===> No more good GPU for consoles! ==> Console gaming's quality becomes mediocre.
So dear console fanboys, if you are so happy with this lie (PC gaming is dying) then be notified that if this lie is true then say goodbye to good console gaming industry too.

Anyways, the GPU companies (ATI/AMD and Nvidia) will NEVER allow this to happen! They will always keep as much as possible using their indirect strong influence to pressure on development companies in order to keep the PC gaming alive ....and very alive.
Why do you the console-ported PC games are always better in graphic quality than the Console version? (just Compare Devil may cry 4 with its console version and so Assassin Creed)
Why do you think Japanese 'console'-companies like Konamie are making games on PC like Devil May Cry and Bionic Commando? Does this show the weakness of PC gaming industry? I don't think so.
Besides, the death of PC gaming means the death of some game genres. Seriously, who's going to play decent RTS games like Red Alert 3 , Solar Empire,Supreme Commander or Starcraft 2 on joystick??? *vomiting* Who's going play D&D RPG games with a joystick?? ***puke*** who's going to play God-like games on console???
The game companies who are dedicated in these genres will never allow the death of PC gaming too and not just the small companies ...but gigantic companies too, like EA.
Because it still very new and expensive smarty, there's no mass production for it yet. So few people upgraded to DVD when it first came out to the market but look now around ....everyone is using DVDs. So many people asked the same question when the DVD was introduced to the market.
looool yes and no ...but it matters a lot to the GPU monster companies. =)
