It's an impressive game, but I felt it was more or less Oblivion with guns and without the leveling problem. I liked Oblivion. F3 is good, but its gloom depress me. There is more variety in Oblivion.

Ok, after some reflection and a lot of play, I quite like Fallout 3. The graphics are very nice, although the locations do get a little repetitive. VATS is cute, although again I got to a point where I didn't want to see every single Super Mutant's head explode in slow-motion. I like the variety of clothing and weaponry, although it would have been nice to see the "special" weapons a bit more visibly distinct from their commonplace counterparts. I very much like the way that you can play effectively even when not wearing armour, so you can choose whichever "look" suits you and not worry about being diced by the first baddie to come along. The game becomes a little easy once you hit 20, although there are still some opponents which can provide a challenge.
My main gripe is the lack of things to do; there seem to be very many fewer quests than Oblivion had. I don't much like Oblivion, and Fallout 3 is certainly a big improvement, but there seem to be much less "directed" things to do, which is a shame.

I'm systematically hunting through every single location on the map at the moment, and writing down what's in every place. I'm sad like that.

Hehe thats not sad :P I did almost the same thing when I started getting bored. I highly recommend you download the GECK and give it a shot if you haven't already. I'm in the process of creating my own vault. :D

I recon 8) My vault is coming along well, but its still got a LONG way to go (more rooms, levels, lighting, navmesh, optimization etc). The possibilities of the GECK are endless! :D Heres an image of what I've done so far if your interested:

Yeah, you should be able to pick it up relatively cheap now. I cant wait till the DLC becomes available (I was hoping for it to come out for Christmas ). As for my vault that I'm building, a quick update :D

Image

1. Cafeteria
2. GECK Room
3. Vault Entrance
4. Upper Levels/Atrium (still working on it)
5. Armory and Firing Range

It should be pretty straight through from now on since I've got all the hard bits done. I'm still torn as to the location of the vault. I could do something similar to Vault 101's entrance and place it in the hills to the north somewhere or I can do something like Brauns vault and have it hidden in the basement of some random abandoned house. Any other ideas are appreciated.

What I'd say would be a good idea would to be keep a stash of weapons in the vault, just in case you really need them.

Have a number of entrances incase you need to creep out of the back, or possibly, if you were to put windows in the vault you could view out, and fire at people from inside your vault, which would be a pretty good spot for aiming practice...

I also hope that there is the perk that makes people die in the most violent way possible, like the previous games. It was very satisfying to shoot people and kill them with that perk.

I'm sad that the combat will not be completely turn based, because I liked being able to pick which body part I attacked all the time.

feels familiar from oblivion. thats the thing Fallout fanboys cant accept, PROGRESSION! videogames PROGRESS!

this game is not oblivion with guns. This is a true fallout game. i am a fan of the original 2 and i can say that this is one hell of a game.

it succeeds F2 and it succeeds Oblivion

Target, the store, is selling Fallout 3 for $39 until tomorrow January 3rd, which will be the last day. I picked me up a copy today(After taxes it came to $41.sum change), haven't played it yet, I'm kind of into Dynasty Warriors 6 right now, but I'm looking forward to it.

If you just bought it here's some advice DON"T blow up megaton (if you were going to) at least complete all the missions first or else you wont get certain items like the rock-it launcher and shishkebab schematics.

I'll try to keep that in mind, thanks.

I completely agree, and I played the living hell out of 1 & 2. This game just plain *feels* like playing Fallout.

Moira doesn't die in the explosion, you can still complete the Wasteland Survival Guide, as well as buy items off of her, in Underworld

Can you still complete the Blood Ties quest for the shishkebab schematic?

I'm pretty sure you can still complete the quest, so long as you speak to Lucy West before detonating the bomb. All you need is her letter. I don't recall if you ever need to return to her after rescuing her brother from The Family near Arefu. If you do then I suppose you'd have to beat the quest first, but I don't remember having to speak to her again so I don't think it matters. You can also just pick pocket Moira for the shishkebab schematics.
