I dont know if this is the same for everyone but I've personally noticed a severe drop in my creative thinking when I'm around computers. Especially if I've been playing video games. I can't write on a computer I have to do it using pen and paper. I know theres studies that show the effects of gaming on a males brain is similar to a drug high and I could say that for me it's probably true. Though I try and put limiters on my time so that i can do other things... doesnt always work but yah. Hopefully this helps.

I liked your answer, it seems that you have thought in more detail about the effect that PC's and the net in general have on people. I know that my boyfriend who used to write all the time, now does little that is creative...he just plays Wow most of his free time. : (

Hi Asuigeneris1. As someone who is very creative I can assure you games do not affect creativity. All they do is consume time. When I'm not playing WOW I create music, art, read, and so forth. :)

...as you said, when you are not playing Wow.

Some people play constantly.

Have you tried talking with him about his playing habits? See what his thoughts are? Is he noticing/caring that he's playing the game to the exclusion of his old hobbies?

I've got an idea... see if you can get him to write a story about his character. Maybe why his character does whatever it does. I know personally each of my characters have its own persona even though I don't play on a role playing server and I don't even really talk about it. Force of habit I suppose. See if he's still subconciously creating storylines around his gaming.

i was playing but since i have had hybrids (pally, druid and shaman) for so long well, it's hard to me to mind everything they can do. I managed to pull off my druid to do all 3 roles at the least... But since i can't raid and some of my chars are pretty much decked with the best heroic gear they can get, meh, losing interest somewhat. (I do love the lore as well o.o )

I used to play WOW, tanking for my sister and bro-in-law and their friends, but it got boring for me when I hit 70. The endless repetition of raids that never really made a difference really turned me off. (What do you mean we're gonna go kill that boss again? I thought we killed him last weekend! Did someone bring him back to life?)

I play EVE Online now. It's a space MMO, different from WOW and most others in that the players have a real impact in the game world. I build kilometer-long spaceships, mine out entire asteroid belts, evade player pirates in lawless space, and read about the hostile corporate takeovers perpetrated by veteran players. It's great.

Yeah I talk, but I am afraid I may be more uptight when I finally do. : P

...I like the idea of the writing though, I can understand the persona's because I do that as well.

I really do miss his writing, it'd make me happy if he did it again at all.

There are PLENTY of NT's out there addicted to WoW. I just downloaded it ArchLord after watching Ben X. The controls are uber funky as oppsed to what I am used to in WoW. I do play a great deal more when I am depressed over something I must admit...

I play WoW. I wouldn't say I'm addicted or obsessed tho, not like when I played EQ. I'm spazzy with toons, I have multiple, But like in EQ my first love is playing a ranger/hunter, my huntard is currently 69.

After EQ I never could attach myself to another MMORPG in quite the same way. It's been 4 years since I sold my EQ acct and to this day there are times when I long to revisit certain zones.

Yep, WoW is my special interest since open beta. 80 Priest, 80 DK, 2 70 rogues (yeah 2 of em :? ), 70 Druid, 68 Warrior, 68 Shaman, 64 Warlock.

I wish I had a useful obsession

I play and have been an addict in the past. I think it's a beautiful, amazing game with infinite possibilities for gameplay. Yet I can see how a hardcore gamer might find it lame or easy... I mean honestly you could just wander around randomly killing stuff and still level up as long as you got training. This is pretty much how I leveled my first priest .

I think the graphics are without equal and the music is rich, gorgeous, and especially in the classic parts of the world there is a wry sense of humor and endless popular culture references that are fun. But... the game is kind of flat, repetitive, and simple at heart (kill mob, get XP, loot, repeat repeat repeat), which is what I like about it.

The "classic" world is still my favorite, I have played both expansions though haven't gone too far into Northrend.

I have a lvl 80 warrior :D
I just have become more social in Real Life (after 5 years I have made contact to a few people I liked (I have always been too shy  )), so I won't be playing too much untill the summer holidays. :)

One of my fave games is Eve Online. Kinda like WoW mixed with Star Wars

Gave it up cold turkey.

It's comforting to know my toons are still floating around the WoW server heaven.

Suddenly I have so much free time! I'm not always sure how to fill it... time for new interests :)
