Without spoiling too much the condition was that you didn't die at all in the game. So basically you needed to have a zero at your save, which would then trigger a bonus scene in the ending. The directions in the egg also changed to a specific pattern then I think.
Ever since I played that game and discovered that, I always tried as much as possible to never die in Zelda games since then as I ended up being in search for similar stuff. Needless to say, that game set the bar of expectations for a Zelda game higher for me, despite being so much more limited in content.

igood amount of challenge for me, i made good use of the bombos medal especially in the ice dungeon with the green penguin enemies.
It was always a pleasure to do that! That was actually my favourite dungeon, even though the movement on ice was a bit buggy when trying to use staircases - and sometimes the ice block you had to push and drop one floor lower onto the pressure plate would just get stuck in midair. Well, unless they fixed that on the VC version.

i thought it was very neat (if obviously needed) the way you were warped back to your starting position of using the mirror resulted in you being clipped inside an object.
I think I heard there are ways of totally bugging that mechanic out if you do that on the graveyard so you get stuck, though I never dared to do that.

i felt LA was darker in a way compared to majoras mask, qhile MM does have a more immediate "impeding doom" atmosphere, it is certain that everyone else (minus marin in the perfect ending) dies in LA's ending while people are actually saved on MM. truly an impressive little 8 bit game. sort of wish nintendo would take these kinds of risks again and let their devs run wild.
Yes, exactly! I thought so too!
Despite being packed into this cheery, beautiful and diverse tropical island setting, the game got a melancholic touch since the reveal and did not lose it until the very end.
Nintendo surely became way too careful in many ways nowadays and experiments less (in games at least). Maybe some kind of aftershock thing from the 64DD and GameCube flop?
Oh, as a matter of fact, in the first-release version of the original LA in Germany, when using magic powder on those slimes, they made nasty, sexual comments. Funny enough, I own that version. Have you ever seen a Zelda game educate you about safer sex before? Simply hilarious!
As far as I know it was really just a thing in the German release and it surprises me to this day that they only spotted that later!
On another note, I enjoyed Sim City 3000 and 4 a lot and Cities Skylines was on my radar since quite a while. Seeing the almost review-like conversation up there makes me tempted to buy it after all.
Also, I'm currently playing F Zero X again, just 11 cars left to do by now! Just took my time to post in between races.
