Have played a bit of both Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon and Dark Souls recently. Have Blue Dragon now, too, but have yet to try it.
EDF seems much of an improvement over 2017 in a lot of ways, but I can't help but feel it is a bit more restricted and loses a lot of the charm the other had, being made more professionally and with a bigger budget. The new class system is cool, but I feel Jet is really the only useful one. Some of the weapons don't seem that great, but then I guess that was also the case in 2017, just that it seems there was much more a chance of the enemies dropping new weapons in that game. Having an active reload is kind of better. The longer missions are nice, though they can kind of drag on and I heard the game was overall shorter than 2017. Have tried the mechs and they don't seem as varied, sadly. The controls are at least a lot better.
Dark Souls is fun so far. Haven't got very far, though - just past the first boss and have been sort of grinding off of the first hill of enemies as well as the fodder down below in New Londo Ruins I think it's called? Have only died once so far, on purpose at the end of my play session last night. Wanted to see how long my character would last without armor or weapons, and it was a bad idea lol. I chose to use the Knight class since it seems they have more health? so leveling up I've been focusing on getting higher stamina, defense, and being able to use advanced and powerful weapons, though I'm not sure if I should be going for any kind of magic at all? I heard you can get some kind of bombs but I have not been able to buy them or find them anywhere. I have a bow I can use but no arrows. I chose the Goddess's Blessing as a gift but don't seem to have it? Can I sell any of my items or armor anywhere? I have a few that were dropped that seem to be lighter at the expense of being worse, so I don't want to lug them around and weigh me down. I guess I should look up some kind of guide because I have a ton of questions.
I was worried it would be clunky, since everyone seems to love Skyrim's clunky combat so much, but Dark Souls feels so much better to me. More like a much harder and very complex version of some of the Zelda games, only the controls are kind of unintuitive. It took me a while to figure out how to do the kick and jump attack. I keep accidentally pressing B and X to attack and all I end up doing is doding and drinking my flasks, lol. That and holding LB to sprint. I guess I need to play it enough to get used to it. At least I've been able to get down parrying somewhat.
