Is that a problem with old gamecube controllers?

Mine joystick is so wobbly on my GameCube controller and I think its broke cause when I was playing Zelda with it on my Wii, when I went back on the stick Link moved slower towards the camera then away from the camera. Its a piece of crap and I ordered a classic controller off ebay and that one didn't work either so I normally just rip stuff from my Wii and play it on dolphin.

Better graphics anyway and if you have a soft modded Wii, you can rip RE4 and play with up to date textures on dolphin. Some disc drives can read gamecube games but I never had luck with that.

Analog sticks loosen overtime from constant use.

The Wii version of RE4 has the best controls out of all the versions of the game
The PS4 version has the best graphics.

The Wiis produced from 2006 - early 2009 have BC with Gamecube.
All Wiis afterwards aren't due to lack of consumer interests and the issues plaguing the dual disc drive.
Also Nintendo was banned from selling Gamecube controllers and their ports in 2008 over a lawsuit.
They finally won on appeal in 2012, allowing the resumption of Gamecube Controller sales.

it is certainly not on the same level as the sad, sad things that were on the n64 controllers, but after 15 years of gaming you would expect them to be well past their prime. the one i have also has the rubbery part torn off. first party, good condition ones can go for up to 25 bucks here but i'll try and see if i can snag one from my cousin who never uses his.

i had a much better gray one with near intact control stick, but i was duped into selling that one for 20 bucks to an aspiring melee player.

xenocity, i didn't know about the 2008 lawsuit preventing gamecube controller sales. that was interesting to read.

hopefully the new smash controllers work with original gameubes?

I'm going to play Skyrim as soon as my parents are finished with the TV and I'm going to try and beat it with my warrior character who, quite surprisingly, is actually a dark elf version of myself. :)

My favorite weapon combination so far are the mace and sheild with a hint of fire magic.

the lawsuit only prevent them from selling in U.S.

The Smash branded ones are regular Gamecube controllers with the Smash logo on it.

All controllers wear out over time with constant use.
Gamecube controllers have held up far better than their PS2 and Xbox counterparts.

ah, good. 8)

funny how they're still clinging to the same hardware after 15 years. isn't the wii u CPU very similar to the gamecube one as well?

one would think a better controller would have been developed by then.

I'm still completely hypnotized by Doom.

I'm at 16 hours already. 16 hours! I *never* hit a number that high this soon after a game launches. Never!

This has absolutely blown away all my expectations for it. I know the multiplayer has issues... but the singleplayer campaign is superb, and the Snapmap stuff gets more and more awesome the more I see and learn about it. I've started work on a map of my own and am beginning to get an understanding of just how deep this really is. Which is even deeper than I'd thought. My only problem is that I tend to use alot of logic stuff in games like this (same with LittleBigPlanet) and in this game, that means that in the editor there's often this hideous jumble of tangled blue lines and icons going all over the place. I should really move them around to organize them more but... ehhh.... effort....

But it's cool to be able to make the game do basically whatever I want. I've got a couple of shield jerks that each explode into a pile of 3 Lost Souls (flying, flaming skulls that charge at you very fast but have little health), for instance, and one spot where I have a special bridge that can be made to appear to reach an alcove with a secret (having blocked off the USUAL entrance to that alcove in that particular room type) if the player can find the switch. And I've only just gotten started with this, it's amazing how easy it is to learn.

They are only selling the Smash Branded controllers due to a huge campaign by Smash fans, who wanted to use their Gamecube controllers with Wii U Smash 4.
You have to buy the special Wii U special adapter to use Gamecube Controllers.

Smash 4 on Wii U lets you use Wii Gamepad, Wii U Pro controller, Wii Remote, Wii Remote and Nunchuck, Wii Classic Controllers and 3DS as a controller as well.

Wii U CPU is derived from the Gekko PPC CPUs IBM originally built for Gamecube.
IBM and Nintendo had a multigenerational deal with CPUs that began with Gamecube with a plan for the Gekko CPU line
Since IBM is ditching Power/PPC development, Nintendo is free to leave.

NX console due out in March, is widely believed to use ARM CPUs instead of x86 CPUs, because ARM CPUs work best for mobile hardware and now have decent performance console and desktop wise.

Anyways to put this way:

PS4 and Xbox One's x86 CPUs are using the x86 architect from 1978
x86 is a dated architect that the tech industry is being held back by, because companies are afraid to develop a new better architect and processor line.
Also Microsoft and most big developers refuse to move away from x86 for cost reasons.

IBM/Nintendo Gekko CPU line uses an architect from 1999, being vastly more modern than the x86 architect found in PS4 and Xbox One.

But since developers prefer x86 and refused to learn IBM Power architect, not many bothered with Gamecube, Wii and Wii U development for "cost" reasons.

The current ARM CPU architect dates from the 2000s with the most modern CPU architect to date, with it being easy to use and program on.
It's also allows you to port x86 code over with practically no effort.

This is one of the big reasons while mobile tech went ARM instead of x86.

^Modern x86 CPUs are only "x86" in terms of their instruction sets; internally, they're custom RISC CPUs with translation units that go from x86 machine language to microcode. This isn't a new thing either; AMD have done this ever since the K5 CPU, which was just an AMD 29000 RISC cpu with a translator unit. Of course, translating from x86 to RISC microcode isn't as efficient as using a RISC architecture like PowerPC or ARM straight up. That said, for raw performance modern x86 CPUs still kick the living daylights out of ARM chips, which are aimed more at power efficiency than anything. The older PowerPC 603e-based architecture Nintendo uses for its home consoles isn't so hot anymore, but newer POWER architecture chips can be pretty formidable, and they can be found in high end servers.

I can't decide. Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon or Animal Crossing New Leaf? Or neither and buy Clamp manga instead?

I'm going to do the impossible task of beating the Elder Scrolls: Arena, which is quite possibly the hardest CRPG I played in my life! :x

I'm going to play Rune Factory 4 today. I'm still not sure whether to buy a new game or not.

IBM no longer develops POWER and the 3rd party game developers refuse to code for POWER.
IBM said they were going to stop production of POWER chip for good and leave the processor and server markets.

Thew newer ARM chips are really powerful and said to be better for dedicated game development than x86.
You can easily get an ARM chip that easily kicks the PS4's x86 CPUs.

Though obviously all the consoles and handhelds uses a customizes version of the chips.

Though to be fair Intel has no interest in developing custom x86 CPUs for dedicated gaming.
They don't even seem to care about making good mobile CPUs.
