The Smash branded ones are regular Gamecube controllers with the Smash logo on it.
ah, good.
funny how they're still clinging to the same hardware after 15 years. isn't the wii u CPU very similar to the gamecube one as well?
one would think a better controller would have been developed by then.
They are only selling the Smash Branded controllers due to a huge campaign by Smash fans, who wanted to use their Gamecube controllers with Wii U Smash 4.
You have to buy the special Wii U special adapter to use Gamecube Controllers.
Smash 4 on Wii U lets you use Wii Gamepad, Wii U Pro controller, Wii Remote, Wii Remote and Nunchuck, Wii Classic Controllers and 3DS as a controller as well.
Wii U CPU is derived from the Gekko PPC CPUs IBM originally built for Gamecube.
IBM and Nintendo had a multigenerational deal with CPUs that began with Gamecube with a plan for the Gekko CPU line
Since IBM is ditching Power/PPC development, Nintendo is free to leave.
NX console due out in March, is widely believed to use ARM CPUs instead of x86 CPUs, because ARM CPUs work best for mobile hardware and now have decent performance console and desktop wise.
Anyways to put this way:
PS4 and Xbox One's x86 CPUs are using the x86 architect from
1978 x86 is a dated architect that the tech industry is being held back by, because companies are afraid to develop a new better architect and processor line.
Also Microsoft and most big developers refuse to move away from x86 for cost reasons.
IBM/Nintendo Gekko CPU line uses an architect from 1999, being vastly more modern than the x86 architect found in PS4 and Xbox One.
But since developers prefer x86 and refused to learn IBM Power architect, not many bothered with Gamecube, Wii and Wii U development for "cost" reasons.
The current ARM CPU architect dates from the 2000s with the most modern CPU architect to date, with it being easy to use and program on.
It's also allows you to port x86 code over with practically no effort.
This is one of the big reasons while mobile tech went ARM instead of x86.
