the framerate improvement and bug fixes are fine and dandy, but i don't like what they did to some of the character designs, or the lighting.

saria looked cute in the n64 game, her ears were a reasonable length. then they were stretched in the 3ds and now the whole look is...off.

if not stretched, then made more apparent.

and then:

i much preferred the darker backdrop of the old game. having ganon visible only by his eyes until a quick bolt of lightning illuminated his monstrous form...better then what we got in the end. for a climax.

My friend is incredulous that I've never played either version of Ocarina of Time.

Yeah, I agree. As much as I dislike the game, and as ugly as a lot of the original was, the remake doesn't feel nostalgic at all, and most of the new art, IMO, doesn't do the game a lot of favors. Even playing it in 3D is kind of difficult, because a lot of the bright whites like Link's shield set off the ghosting.

It's neat to play it again, framerate is a TINY bit better, and it's portable...bonus features are nice, but I wish they would've added an option to tone down Navi. It was cool to hate her back in the day, but replaying it, man, it was all deserved.

It's "the best Zelda game ever"! !! !

The game did introduce a lot of elements that have been in the series ever since (some good, some bad), but I remember being kind of disappointed with it when it came out. For a lot of people, it was their first Zelda game, so I can see why they would love it so much.

I got sidetracked by relationship values in Fates Revelation. As usual.

Persona 5. I don't play that many JRPGs these days, but I feel like it's the best JRPG to come out in two console generations. The last one I really enjoyed though was Xenoblade Chronicles.

I loved the last iteration, but this is a massive step up in quality. It's a relief because I was a little worried. Persona had become a franchise that I felt the publisher was really milking, with so many recent spin offs. But this game is real labor of love, full of great design choices, and wonderful style.

Didnt really like it much myself either. I played all the way through it once, and then after that just never really had the desire to do it again. It was pretty much where my love of the series died. Didnt care for Majora much, and outright hated Windwaker. Just... bleh. I havent bothered with the series since. Except the old ones.

And people always seem so astounded if I tell them any of that at all.

^Part of the reason my friend likes it so much is because he's been playing Zelda games since he could hold a controller--literally.

I'm playing BF Thud!, a Doom 2 wad, also using one of those Realm 667 monster mods to spice things up a bit.

The original Quake game, I'm about two thirds of the way through the second episode.

It's taken me 20 years to get round to experiencing this game and I've got very mixed feelings about it:

The levels are dark, somewhat monochrome and claustrophobic. Quite atmospheric though, especially with the sound effects. The controls aren't brilliant, possibly related to the DOSbox format, even though I've speeded up the virtual processor to 80,000 cycles. Ammo, especially for the better weapons like the nail gun, runs out far too quickly, but health packs are abundant. I'd much rather be playing Doom quite honestly, but the gameplay is at least very challenging - I'm determined to complete the episode before putting the game aside for a while.

Oh gosh, why are you torturing yourself???

At least run WinQuake =) Add "+mlook" to your CFG file somewhere, or type it into the console every time you start (~), and you'll probably also want to reconfigure the movement keys to WASD.

Barring that, I think FTEQW supports software style lightmapping, but I'm not certain. I usually prefer the vanilla experience if I'm not running fancy new mods.
