My stack of unplayed Dragon Quest games keeps getting larger @_@ XI will hopefully be added to it sometime this year or next, and I still need to pick up a copy of VI DS...I didn't have a job when it came out =(

^I'm thinking about asking for V for my birthday. IX was my first fantasy RPG ever, and I loved every minute of it. I played it so much that I basically memorized a lot of the dialogue.

Last time I checked, the SquareEnix Online Store gets copies in stock of IV and V every once in a while. I bought both of them, and FFIII during a Black Friday sale: https://store.na.square-enix.com/

I keep hoping they'll add VI, but so far it seems to be out of print =( I have all of the rest of the handheld remakes, bought I-III for GBC when they came out, and the first DQ Monsters game.

I've found it on amazon. Hopefully it'll still be there. Then again, it's not like I need any more video games...

I've been playing Star Trek Bridge Crew, a lot of it. It's rare that I play a VR game for long stretches like I would flat gaming, but this is really compelling and fun. It's like FTL if it were multiplayer, or Elite: Dangerous if multicrew was fun.

Trynna construct a moon and colony up there on one of my minecraft creative endeavours, leveling up some pokéjerks on Gold and attempting to progress on Bioshock, too busy absorbing all the wonderful details of this under the sea tragedy!

Zelda II: Adventure of Link. I always get the name confused with Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. I played them both as a child and they just sound so similar.

Very similar games, too...both the "experimental" second game in the series, where they tried to combine platforming with RPG, and decided never to do that again.

They both have sloppy English translations, too =)

I've been ill and, as such, have spent the last few days playing Bloodborne. I'm glad to say that I have finally plat'd it! All achievements down, even that awful, AWFUL Cursed Pthumerian Defilement chalice dungeon that halves your maximum life while forcing some real nasty enemies and bosses on you. I beat the Keeper by forcing it into the wall and using the Whirligig Saw's continuous L2 move, which repeatedly staggers it until you run out of stamina. The Watchdog involved summoning the NPC nearby and keeping its aggro moving so that you avoid damage while ensuring the NPC doesn't die. The Amygdala at the end was awful and the only part of the game that I had to look up a strategy to beat; as it turns out, there is a cheap tactic that involves hugging the tail and waiting for it to jump. If you stay still at this point you will never take damage, and it will land in such a way that you can hit the head and then run back for the tail without being hurt.

I was surprised to see that around 7% of players acquired the plat. For context, around 64% of players beat the first boss, so around 11% of people who didn't either immediately give up, or simply not start the game, managed to get the plat. I would have expected lower for a difficult game with relatively obscure conditions for achieving the plat, but I suppose that Soulsborne nerds are just really hardcore!

Attempting to play Goldeneye 007, but finding it frustrating owing to the N64 controller, which does not impress. What on earth is that button underneath the pad all about? Hopefully with a bit of patience and determination it'll become more playable.

I did come across a Doom 2 based total conversion of this game a few months ago, but it was pretty dire.

IMO N64 had the best gamepad for FPS (though I prefer mouse + keyboard). The durability of the joystick itself does not hold up over the years, however =(

I always play GoldenEye and Perfect Dark with the controller settings on 1.2 (I think it is), so the C-buttons are for movement, and the analogue stick is for looking around.

^ Thanks for that! Actually I've opted for the 1.4 controller setup, as it makes the analogue stick function like the mouse in games like Doom, etc (with mouselook on, of course). Trouble is the analogue stick is so bloody stiff and difficult to manoeuvre (probably a consequence of its being the best part of 20 years old), and as the initial difficulty level was set by default to '00 agent', I was continually being undone by inability to turn quickly enough when under fire. I've reset it to the middle difficulty, and the game is now very playable.

Will probably return to '00 agent' level once I've completed the game (or got a more responsive controller), as there seem to be more tasks to perform at that setting. Also I've noticed there don't seem to be any health packs about - presumably the game is using some sort of regenerating health system, like Halo etc?

Mine wobbles loosely =/ I tried to take pretty good care of it, too. One of these days I need to remember to check on those replacement parts that got Kickstarted, and put some grease in there so they don't wear out as quickly.

With that game, I've always started off with the easiest mode and worked my way up. I don't remember if that unlocks anything.

Health doesn't regenerate, but it is kind of like Halo because you won't take any damage until your armor wears out. I don't remember there being any health packs (it's been a while), but there are armored vests lying around.

You've just gotta be a bit more stealthy, and take targets out from a distance. Or at least that's how I always play.

...I might need to hook up my N64 now...

1.2 layout, left hand on the d-pad, right hand on the analog stick, move your right thumb over to the A/B buttons whenever you need to use them. Works just like later console FPSs. You might also need to disable inversion.
