Warning: The following is a petty video game rant.

I actually like the Wii more than the other two consoles right now. I have more games on it that I like (Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Brawl, Wario Ware Smooth Moves, Punch Out!!), and there are more games that I'm looking forward to (Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Epic Mickey), than the other two. I have a PS3 (but no Xbox 360, because it doesn't appeal to me), and although I do enjoy the games I have for it (Metal Gear Solid 4, inFamous, Street Fighter IV), the only upcoming one that I'm really excited for is The Last Guardian.

Also, the "hardcore" criteria of video games really doesn't appeal to me. All I see are shooters, glitchy RPGs, RTS games, and racers, and none of those genres (with the exception of RPGs) interest me in the slightest bit. I've played Modern Warfare 2 and Halo, and to me there is nothing that differentiates them from any other shooter. I'm not saying that these games are terrible, I'm just saying that I really don't care for them.

I also hate it when someone pulls the you're-not-a-real-gamer-if-you-play-such-and-such-but-not-this card, because the way I see it, a real gamer is ANYONE who likes to play video games. It's fanboys and elitists that pull that stupid, biased card that makes me feel ashamed to be a gamer. I may be a bit cynical about certain games, and also a bit over-opinionated about the games that I like, but I do try not to shove it down other players' throats and talk down on them for having a different taste in games as I do.

And another thing, the reason why there are so many different video games out there is because different games appeal to different gamers. We all cannot like the exact same games, and there will always be at least one gamer that disagrees with the opinions of another gamer. Who is to say which gamer has the "better" taste in video games? I say let bygones be bygones, and just accept each others' tastes.

Sorry for all of that, I'm just a little sick of elitists (in RL I should add) talking down on me for liking the Wii, and not the games that they love.

The Wii is a good console,
I like playing Wii Fit and Mario Kart and Super Mario Galaxy.

Madworld is a good game for people that want to kill baddies by chucking them into giant fans.

I love my Wii. I got sick and tired of button-bashers and wanted a more hands-on experience. When the DS came out, I thought it was gonna flop because of the touchscreen "gimmick" but NOOOO, it's by FAR the most successful handheld on the market right now, and the DSi XL is coming out soon ;)

The Wii brought Nintendo back from the dead. The Gamecube may have been a flop compared to the PS2 and Xbox, but the Wii did something different rather than upgrade the graphics or engines. Sure, some of the games are DIABOLICAL, but there are tons of respectable first-, second, and third-party publishers who make fantastic, non-gimmick, use of the remote.

All consoles suck for FPS. There is and never will be precision in a console like there is on a pc, unless you can hook a mouse and keyboard up to it. Consoles are better for platformers and third person games. RPGs can work well on either consoles or PC. That being said I hurt my elbow playing the Wii. I like to relax, while playing games, not get hurt. What about if someone is injured and they hurt their arm, like me. OH, I guess they can't play the Wii. Nintendo doesn't think about that. The Wii mote is the biggest piece of junk I've ever seen, especially when you have to hold it side ways to play certain games, which makes it completely uncomfortable and it feels so unnatural. Sony did the right thing, by always keeping their controller the same. If it isn't broke, don't fix it, or in Nintendo's case, if it isn't broke don't make it garbage.

One interesting thing is that people say that games have gotten easier, they say that this will destroy the future of games, but there is another side to it, when I was younger I had a lot of difficulty at the games on the NES and SNES. I could never get really far in Super Mario, could only get to second level in Battletoads and I have quite a lot of memories of only playing the begining over and over again of Flintstones, Jurassic Park, space invaders, Batman and Spiderman. Nowdays, especialy on the Wii it is easier to go further, with save files and easier play that I think it is more enjoyable for many people.

But I guess I have wanted rougher games, a game I can feel immersed in, well this is why I stay away from games that are realistic shooters like warefare and tom clancy. Nintendo is good for it's immersive universe, but it just feels a bit stale to me, Smash bros is fun for the characters and I like Zelda but the cartoon version is too kiddy and Twilight, was just missing a little spark.

I resent being told that me playing FPS on a consoel will never match a PC, I hand get cramped and confused on a keyboared and mouse. I just feel more conected to the game holding a controler in my hand, and direct my character with easy to find comands, not something like a s w x d and other keys I get mixed up with my long fingers or a mouse that keeps comeing off the pad, useing my whole arm to move instead of just a finger.

...what.

What if you injure your fingers or your thumbs? Then you can't really play any videogames at all!

True, but Nintendo has made it so people can not relax while playing their Wii games. Hey I don't want to swing my arms around to watch a movie and I don't want to do it to play a video game.

It's a shame really because the GameCube controller is one of the best gamepads I've ever played with. It handles like a dream.

Also the Wii has the only controller that can be used with only one hand.

Something you may not know is on PC you have unlimited ajustments you can do, for example you can change the mouse sensitivity to exactly the speed you want. Also, you can bind keys for specific guns, unlike in consoles where you have no choose but to cycle through guns and by the time you get to the gun you need your dead. Alos, have you ever heard of making your own mods, models, skins, maps and mods for a console game? I like making custom content in my games, most people don't care, because they don't make any custom content for games. Modding a game and making your own levels and models is half the fun.

The Wii will never appeal to me on a couple of factors. I prefer the PC to gaming as the controls I feel comfortable with unlike some gamepads where the controls are fixed and have a couple of pre-sets. For some reason, they never seem to work for me.

I like to feel comfortable with a game and the device I use to interact with it. The Wii interaction isn't enough as there are no stops. A steering wheel will go so far and that will determined as "Full lock" and with a fixed dead centre where no steering is performed. With the Wii, what's to stop the configuration from over-correcting. The controller will move with the wheel and make every awkward.

I will forever say that First Person Shooters (FPS) will never be good on a platform that can be held in the hands. But something that can be used for fine-precision is better. Unless that person relies on "auto-aim"

As with the keyboard and mouse combo, there is such a thing as adjusting the controls to something that makes you feel comfortable with.
I saw an old keyboard overlay with all of DooM 3 keys. I thought this was great... if I used the defaults, which I never do. Some defaults I did, but the overlay prevented me from using the keys in position to where I was used to.

I like a game to have graphics as it helps me to immerse myself into the game and get involved and want to play. I was never good at imagination, but this never stopped me playing on retro games. Some people are calling PSX (PS1,PSone) and N64 retro, but I remember NES and SNES. It's not the console that determines graphics, it's the application that uses them that determines how much to use and detail levels, etc. Take the game Portal. this works as it's simple, clean, fun and addictive.

As I say, platform determines whether or not I play that game. Some controllers don't feel natural enough to me, Xbox, DC, N64, Sega Saturn, but the PSX series does

Actually, yes.

All you need is a BlueTooth adapter, the Glovepie program (or whatever else works for you), an appropriate video output that's compatible with your TV, and whichever homemade sensor bar solution you have available.
