Gyarados is running Ice Fang, Dragon Dance, Waterfall, and... Thunder Wave.

A little unusual, and Dragon Dance is probably redundant with Thunder Wave in there, but it's nice to intimidate an opponent automatically and then follow up with Paralysis.

I suppose if I had to choose, I'd rather unlearn Dragon Dance than Thunder Wave. What do you suggest?

I just did some checking, and I did not know Gyarados could learn Outrage. That might be a worthwhile attack for stomping down Paralyzed enemies, and while Leftovers are a nice item, I could switch it out for the confusion curing berry if needed, since they're cheap and plentiful.

I do not plan to teach him Earthquake, as I've only one TM left and only 14 BP, and want to save it for something else I haven't quite pinpointed yet. Besides, if he did know Earthquake to take out Electric types, he'd keep DD instead of Thunder Wave, and taking out electric types is Steelix's job anyway.

I wouldn't recommend Outrage on Gyarados or any other non-Dragon. Waterfall will hit everything but Dragons (who get hit hard by Ice Fang) just as hard and it won't lock you into the move or confuse you.

With Ice Fang and Waterfall, you are walled by Water-type Pokémon and your Steelix is weak to Water-type moves. I would make sure your third Pokémon can handle Water-types.

Wow, you called it. The game is sending out water/ground and water/rock types at me by the caseload. I'm just about to enter the third round of the battle tower (battle 15-21) and thought I'd check back here for advice.

The last pokemon is the Hitmonlee I like to use, but he's a real one shot wonder, fun for theme teams, but I could switch him out.

Looks like a grass type would complement my team. I'll have to check some stats later.

My first thought for a good teammate is Ludicolo. It has a double resistance to Water and Grass-type attacks to take down opposing Water-types. Also, it's a fun Pokemon for sure (just look at it!). Once I get back to my dorm and my laptop I'll look more closely at how it fits your team.

I was thinking about Ludicolo too. He's a real pain in the neck to fight against, with that Water/Grass garbage, and since he can learn Ice Beam, flyers and bug types can't just push him over.

I've been meaning to make a Ludicolo anyway for a theme team I'm working into the pipeline. But it looks like I'll have to breed Razor Leaf onto him. Hmm.

I think it's strange talking this way, because I had no problems fighting any trainers in Johto or Kanto, I used legendary pokemons though, but one thing is clear, I can't wait for pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Yeah, but this is the Battle Tower (hence why only three Pokémon have been discussed). It gets ridiculously hard in the later rounds.

I LOVE the Pokemon games. A few months ago my boyfriend told me he was getting me a DS and I started playing my Gameboy Color again...only game I had was Pokemon Yellow...this amused him to no end. He got me Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for the DS (downloaded) but it just wasn't the same as Yellow, Red, and Blue.

Especially when the computer starts stacking the odds against your team.

@ valkyrieraven88: Yeah, there have been a lot of changes. Personally, I miss the ferry. Heart Gold and Soul Silver will have a ferry again, at least.
I also have a lot of hope for the next generation of games.

Ooh, I got an idea for my third team member. Ludicolo would be nice, but he can wait--I've always wanted to make a battle Clefable, and since it can learn Grass Knot, that would help take out those bulky water types, or non bulky water types with Thunderbolt. Furthermore, this Clefairy is one I imported from third gen Leaf Green, so I taught it the exclusive move (and technically illegal in tournament play) Softboiled. So I've got something to hammer on water/ground types with, and a bit of a bulky tank.

I forget which nature, but I know it's neutral. Clefairy have a 1% chance of showing up in Mt. Moon, and require about 15 laps around the region to hatch (no flame body trip in Leaf Green) so I cut my losses after a few catches/eggs. Sort of wishing I'd stuck it out now, but whatever.

So... speed and hit points for EV training, then? Grass Knot, Softboiled, maybe Thunderbolt/maybe not, and...?

I remember that, the battle tower on Johto is way harder than the one in Hoenn, I never managed to beat more than three rounds, and I haven't touched the game in 6 or 7 years.

I doubt the cartridges of Gold and silver would work very well anymore, all the battries that helped with keeping the time and such would have gone flat. The DS versions will alow the chance to go back, I wonder if they will alow to go to the Kanto region and see Blue and Red. Also wonder if it brings back the radio, which was a cool part.

They made Pokemon the way it is today with the Gold, Silver and Crystal versions, they had berries, the radio, the pokegear, the day-night system, the shiny pokemons, the breeding system, and the crystal version introduced moving pokemon on the battle screen and the battle tower, but they forgot a few of these things in the 3rd and 4th generation of pokemon, I think they should bring them back.

HeartGold and SoulSilver will feature the radio/iPhone.
