Maybe cheaper for the casual player who only needs a PHB and a set of dice, but for the DM it can get very expensive very fast >_<

I'm not even going to get into miniatures.

What's the difference between spending hundreds of dollars on TTRPG books and spending hundreds of dollars on MMORPG gear?

Depends on the game. I know some manuals are very high priced along with other accessories. Of course, I did get bored and make my own sci if space opera sandbox rpg so that part is free.

As far as speaking loads of money on either, don't imagine thus covers all cases, but is still s general answer, mmorpg purchases may only be limited to one game and may not be refundable or resell able. Meanwhile, books can be resold and usually have more uses than any gear. A holy battle axe vs the power to create entire campaigns is hardly a competition

Not much, except that the second one probably means the game in question is really bad. A "pay to win" sort of thing. In any good MMO, you dont pay actual money for gear or anything that actually affects gameplay. It's usually just for optional things like cosmetics. Which in it's own way is silly, but.... whatever.

There's also the huge problem for many people in that in order to do the tabletop ones.... you need a group of friends that give a damn. And time in which to do it of course. Certainly leaves me out, nothing I can do about that.

Though I think my biggest issue with those, honestly, if I WERE to play them (the tabletop ones), would be the pacing. If I watch others play those, like, seeing them play it in videos or something... they're usually VERY SLOW. Alot of "Um" and "ah" while talking, or long pauses, or.... arrrgh. It'd drive me insane. I dont deal with "slow" very well. Though, as I have problems with social stuff anyway, none of this actually matters, probably.

I've loved RPGs since the 2nd grade. My first RPG was Fate. Then I started playing Dragonfable. Then I started playing Oblivion and Fable II. Then I started playing Skyrim and Fable III. I also started playing the other Fate games, but didn't like them as much as the first. I also played Heroes of Might and magic V. I also played Rift. Eventually I want to play Elder Scrolls Online. I played a small bit of Diablo III and thought it was pretty cool. I loved playing D&D and Pathfinder.
