Oh crud. While I deeply love the Final Fantasy games, I do not do those extras like fighting the Weapons! I'm just not THAT hardcore about it :)

Infirm of purpose :? . Not only that but fighting the Weapons usually gets you things. Fighting and defeating Ultima Weapon in FF7 nets you Cloud's ultimate weapon, Ultimate Weapon. Drawing magic from Ultima Weapon in FF8 nets you the ultimate GF, Eden. You can also get a lot of stuff, including Kimahri's final Ronso Rage, Nova, by fighting Omega Weapon (and having Kimahri use Lancet on the boss) in FF10.

I don't think she's far enough in the game to go and beat Ultima Weapon...

Yeah, I know... but it's something to work towards.

It's an optional super tough boss. A lot of the Final Fantasy games have them, sometimes called different things.

They're usually MUCH tougher than the final boss of the game, and are kind of there to give you something extra to do once you beat the game. I've never even tried, because they seem so tough.

As Quatermass mentions, you can get cool stuff from them, but if you're powerful enough to beat them, you can probably knock over the final boss with your pinkie, so you don't really NEED the cool gear they give you.

You can often beat the Final Fantasy games without even seeing a Weapon.

Anyone know what the first FF was to have Weapon? The first I remember was Final Fantasy 5, where he's kind of sitting there before you get to the final boss (you can just go past him...I made the mistake of fighting him before I knew what he was, and he killed my characters in one hit!)

Technically FFV (Omega), though you might call Warmech from the original Final Fantasy a 'Weapon'...

Let's list 'em

FFI: Warmech, Omega*
FFII: Ultima Weapon*
FFIV: Zeromus EG^
FFV: Omega, Omega Mk II*
FFVI: Atma and Atma Weapon, Omega Weapon*
FFVII: Ultima, Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald WEAPONS, along with Jade@ and Omega@ WEAPONS
FFVIII: Ultima and Omega Weapons
FFIX: The nearest thing is Ozma, but he doesn't exactly count, per se.
FFX: Ultima and Omega Weapons, plus Nemesis&
FFX-2: Ultima and Omega Weapons, plus Paragon%
FFXII: Omega Mark XII

*In the GBA remakes only
^Zeromus EG vaguely resembles a Weapon
@Jade and Omega WEAPONS appeared in the FFVII spinoffs, namely Before Crisis and Dirge of Cerberus respectively.
&Can only be created through the monster arena
%All three can only be encountered in the Via Infinito.

Omega being the best example of them all. ONE "three stars" item (already fairly useless), especially as you can get more by refining the Squall card. The only other thing you have to show for beating it is the ever-useless "Proof of Omega". Moreover, many players who can defeat the final boss with ease will still fail to even *dent* Omega. With a collection of fixed damage attacks (ie. ALWAYS cause either 9999 or 9998 damage), and some horrific attacks that hit your whole team, fighting Omega is sort of like the first time you encounter a Dark Aeon in FFX. You're doomed.

I could never get into the FF games because I absolutely loath turn-based combat in RPG's, but I did love the CGI movie that was a sequel to FFVII.

Argh... I feel stupid.
I tried to fight Omega Weapon again for the heck of it, seeing as it was fresh in my mind. So, I loaded up my old 'pre-omega' save, and started the fight.
Amazingly, I COMPLETELY forgot to junction death to two of my three character's status defenses. Anyone familiar with Omega can guess what happened within seconds. Doh!

I only just got FFVII off eBay, and I've restarted FFVIII (Levelling up your characters not just your GF's is a GREAT idea everyone!) so I won't be running into any of these evils anytime soon.

Ummm, does Nebelheim (or wherever Cloud and Tifa are from) come before or after Junon (or....I should really be awake when I play games), because I get the feeling I've missed half the game...........................

After Junon, if you're talking about actually getting there. The flashback to Nibelheim two years ago is earlier, though. It goes: Midgar-Kalm(Nibelheim Flashback)-Mythril Caves-Junon-Costa del Sol-Corel-Golden Saucer-Mideel-Cosmo Canyon-Nibelheim.....

Did any of you ever have the delightful pleasure of performing a 'lion heart' limit break?

Every time I do, it reminds me why I've never played any FF apart from VIII.

The right approach to it means all the tedium pays off threefold. And it's less work if, like me, you NEVER cast spells. I was almost indestructible by the end of Disc 2. Then I acquired the Lion Heart gunblade, and even Island Closest to Hell was like a stroll through a local park. I hate Malboros though.

I even introduced my sister to FFVIII. Her only reaction was to tell me I'm just like Squall. Should I take that as a compliment or an insult?

((((hugs))))

I don't know if that's an insult or not-probably not. But either way, there are a LOT worse people to be compared with, that's for sure!
