I'm interested to see what the new console brings. Given comments made by Reggie last year, it seemed Nintendo had no interest in VR, yet now they're delaying the console for VR. You have to respect Nintendo regardless of whether you like them for never dabbling in things; they always go all-in, for better or worse. I'm thinking the next Nintendo console will be centred around VR gaming, with a focus on multiplayer couch play.
It has nothing to do with VR.
AMD is behind in getting their new CPU and GPU into production, with the new chips delayed Q4 of this year. The new CPUs and GPUs were originally scheduled for
the end of last year, which leaks were saying Nintendo was using.
Sharp who is one of Nintendo's key suppliers for screens and other parts is in the process of a takeover with their production being frozen.
It has nothing to do with VR, despite a very inaccurate rumor.
Sony is launching PSVR at $399 for the headset alone, $499 if you need PS Move controllers and the PS Camera (which is what PSVR is centered on).
If you buy the $499 PSVR and PS4K at $399 (if it is $399) you have spent over $900 to get the cheapest VR solution.
All the PC VR solutions require high end PCs and special controllers on top of paying over $700 for the headsets.
Not many people want to pay more than $250 for a Nintendo console.
The NX Console delay is literally down to AMD being way behind in CPU and GPU Production. It didn't help that a lot of people complained about the Wii U lacking games at launch despite have the most games ever for any system launch in history.
Don't expect Microsoft or Nintendo to launch their own VR Unit this decade, due to the expense of it.
