I would have to say the megaman games for the NES. now THAT is rocking old-school

Old-school Sonic...before the "series" went three-dimensional and had a musical overhaul, especially considering what technology the game makers would have had on hand at the time...no Halo-style orchestral pieces back then.

this game in my opinion had some of the best polyphonic nintendo music ever
